Russian Brands Flooding Africa’s Continental Market Squeezed between the United States and European Union sanctions, Russia has been exploring effective ways to increase the exports of its industrial products under “Made-in-Russia” program to traditional markets in Latin America, Asia and Africa. The primary strategic goal is to secure Russia’s economic interests abroad while at the same time support Russian industries in raising revenue to modernize Soviet-era industries. But increasing exports especially to African markets, Russia has to confront market competition from Western players and Asian countries such as China, India and the Gulf states. In an interview, the former Director General, Russian Export Center and now the Chairman and CEO of Promsvyazbank, Peter Fradkov, explained that Russia has been making every effort to avoid the “raw-materials” export model and focus on developing export-oriented industries and the launch of the Russian Export Center was a key step towards the development of a full-fledged national export support system. The Soviet Union made a significant contribution to the social and economic development of African countries by building large industrial and infrastructure facilities and helping to establish national education and health care systems. However, in the 1990s the Russian-African relations came virtually to a standstill. At present, Russia’s foreign trade turnover with Africa is about $20 billion, which is a rather modest achievement. Nevertheless, the African continent remains a rather promising market for Russian industrial goods. https://thenews-chronicle.com/russian-brands-flooding-africas-continental-market/

It’s Not Biden V. Trump For America It’s Life V. Death For The Planet On all fronts, Biden and Trump are more divided than ever on just about every important issue that comes to mind, so climate change is just one of many hot spots for the election. Both of the major parties in the United States have now officially declared “presumptive” presidential candidates for the 2024 election. It has never been more critical to review their positions on major issues than it is right now, and so I write again to bring awareness to the climate challenge because candidate Trump will try to sweep it all under the rug despite its catastrophic implications for much of humanity. On all fronts, Biden and Trump are more divided than ever on just about every important issue that comes to mind, so climate change is just one of many hot spots for the election. Despite political charades designed to keep the American public from focusing on any single issue for more than a day or two, we must discover and exploit the power that we have to at least keep climate risks in the rotation with the clear goal of stopping Mr. Trump’s return to the Oval Office. https://moderndiplomacy.eu/2024/05/03/its-not-biden-v-trump-for-america-its-life-v-death-for-the-planet/

BRICS Versus G8: Emerging Economies and the Future of Global Balance In the global geopolitical landscape, BRICS and G8 stand out as influential entities, born with different foundations, objectives and internal dynamics. Understanding these differences and potential future trajectories requires a deep dive into their peculiarities, their strengths and the challenges they face. The dynamics within BRICS and G8 suggest potentially diverging future paths for the international system. BRICS could challenge the existing world order by promoting a more multipolar global architecture, reflecting the rise of emerging economies. Initiatives like the New Development Bank implemented by BRICS provides alternatives to Western financial institutions like the IMF and the World Bank. The G8, while continuing to influence global economic and security policies, may face increasing challenges related to legitimacy and effectiveness. Russia's suspension and internal tensions raise questions about the group's cohesion and ability to act united on global issues. https://infobrics.org/post/41086/

Ancient Political Advice For Today’s Rulers – OpEd It is probably the case that politicians who are encouraged to read the works of the ancient Greek thinker, Plato – particularly The Republic – to learn something there about the prerequisites for being able to govern appropriately and wisely, would scoff at this suggestion, with perhaps a few rare exceptions. Psy-ops employ a diversity of psychological strategies and techniques to exercise influence over the feelings, thoughts, and behaviour of a selected group, with the obvious goal of persuading the people comprising the latter, usually via various modes of deception, to act in a desired manner. If this sounds familiar, don’t be surprised. It has been carried out on the populations of the world’s countries since at least 2020, and arguably for much longer. Given the advanced state of electronic information and communication technology at that time, the means for the propaganda and cleverly disguised disinformation, essential for convincing people to act in a desired manner, were already there with the advent of Covid, and will be employed again in a similar future situation, such as the possibly pervasive spread of bird flu (among people?), which has already been detected in India and at least 17 US states. https://www.eurasiareview.com/03052024-ancient-political-advice-for-todays-rulers-oped/

Anti-Communist, Russian nationalist, enemy of Hitler: Who was ‘Putin’s favorite philosopher’? How Ivan Ilyin, a thinker falsely accused by some in the West – seeking to promote a certain narrative – of being a ‘supporter of fascism’, became so influential He was a staunch supporter of the anti-Bolshevik White Movement during the Russian Civil War and a monarchist who was close to far-right Russian émigré circles. He was also a thinker who was accused of supporting fascism, but was persecuted by Nazi Germany as soon as Hitler came to power. Despite his an ardent anti-communism, he strongly supported the Soviet state in its confrontation with the Third Reich. All these facts describe one person – the renowned Russian philosopher Ivan Ilyin. RT explores whether Ilyin really was a fascist, why his socio-political views can give us a better understanding of 21st century Russia, and how he apparently became the Russian president’s favorite philosopher. https://swentr.site/russia/596661-ivan-ilyin-russian-philosopher/

US vs Russia in Africa: Why the Biden strategy may be failing U.S. officials are starting to accept that their strategy of pressing Niger and other war-battered African countries to break off ties with Moscow and embrace democratic norms is no longer working, writes POLITICO. The recent breakdown in relations with Niger, where American troops are set to withdraw as Russian fighters arrive, has forced a reckoning inside the Biden administration over its approach to maintaining its allies in volatile parts of Africa, according to two officials familiar with the matter. Both officials were granted anonymity to speak about sensitive diplomatic negotiations. Countries across the continent, including Chad, Central African Republic, Mali and Libya, have turned toward Russia for security assistance. Now, in Niger, Russian paramilitary fighters have arrived, sidelining the U.S. and forcing the withdrawal of 1,100 U.S. military personnel there in the next several months, one of the officials said. https://en.interaffairs.ru/article/us-vs-russia-in-africa-why-the-biden-strategy-may-be-failing/

Poisoned gifts: West's other tool to enslave Africa The overhaul of an oppressive and exploitative financial system is imperative. An alternative framework by the BRICS bloc is a welcome initiative. There is a need for access to international markets for Africa’s products. Trade, research, and development are viable approaches to relations between Africa and former colonisers — but not aid. The Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) initiative by the United States (US) somewhat seeks to de-emphasise aid. Selected African countries are allowed to export goods to the US duty-free. This arrangement is aimed at earning these countries foreign exchange and boosting their manufacturing. AGOA, however, is a drop in the ocean. And, crucially, it is still a political tool for manipulation that the US wields to make African countries toe its line. Uganda, for instance, was removed from this pact when it enacted laws against homosexuality, along with the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Niger, starting in 2024. The Bretton Woods institutions followed suit and threatened to cut aid to Uganda unless it repealed these laws. https://www.herald.co.zw/poisoned-gifts-wests-other-tool-to-enslave-africa/

US losing ground to Russia in geopolitical battle over Africa The expected withdrawal of U.S. forces from Niger will endanger U.S. counter-terrorism operations and hand Russia more influence in Africa as American and western ties on the continent fracture. Russia also has close relations and security agreements with Mali and Burkina Faso, both of which are controlled by military juntas, and Libya, a country torn between two major rival factions. The Central African Republic is also close to Russia and is reportedly discussing an agreement to host a Russian military base. A scaled-back U.S. presence in the Sahel is likely to encourage more Russian influence in the region, particularly if terrorist threats grow. Siegle, from the National Defense University, said the “main way that Russia has gained influence is at the expense of the West.” https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/us-losing-ground-to-russia-in-geopolitical-battle-over-africa/ar-AA1nYuqX
