The meeting of the heads of space agencies of the BRICS member countries will be held on May 23 under the chairmanship of Russia, Interfax reports (https://afrinz.ru/2024/05/glavy-kosmicheskih-agentstv-stran-briks-vstretyatsya-v-moskve/) , citing a statement by the press service of the Russian state space corporation Roscosmos.
The event program will include an exchange of views on a wide range of issues of international cooperation in the field of space activities, as well as a discussion of current and future space projects in a multilateral format.
In recent years, the BRICS countries and the African continent have been actively developing their space programs; in addition, they are interested in cooperation with Moscow.

New pro-Russian group sets up in Côte d’Ivoire
Group members, like pro-Russian actor Kémi Séba’s CSO, have joined forces to promote anti-Western agenda from a unified platform.
The organisation, Solidarité Panafricaniste Côte d’Ivoire (SOPA-CI), was launched on February 2024 in Cocody, Abidjan, in the wake of the rapidly growing anti-French narratives and pan-African sentiments in Francophone Africa.
The formation of SOPA-CI has granted its members a single, strong, and influential voice to leverage their assets, networks, and support bases to promote their anti-Western agenda more forcibly. SOPA-CI’s member CSOs are also leveraging their presence in other Francophone countries to mobilise more support for their anti-Western narratives outside Côte d’Ivoire.

Russian Rusal Could Build Railway and Port in Guinea-Bissau, the African Foreign Minister Says
In mid-February, the Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov and the Minister of Natural Resources of Guinea-Bissau Malam Sambu discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of geology and subsoil use. The parties agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the near future to further develop relations.
The Russian aluminum company Rusal is interested in building a railway in Guinea-Bissau, which will connect the West African country with several countries in the region, Foreign Minister of the Republic Carlos Pinto Pereira told the Portuguese agency Lusa.
According to the minister, representatives of Rusal discussed with the country's President, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, the possibility of building a railway in Guinea-Bissau as well as a deep-water port in the city of Buba. The reopening of a Russian embassy in Sierra Leone will significantly strengthen the bonds between the two nations, Freetown’s ambassador to Moscow, Mohamed Yongawo, has said in an exclusive interview with RT.
Speaking on the sidelines of ‘Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2024’, Yongawo emphasized the historical depth of the relationship between Russia and African nations, including Sierra Leone.
“Russia has always been in Africa. Let’s say during the Soviet Union. Russia, being the proverbial eminent of the Soviet Union, is just probably returning to their base,” he explained.

Russia plans big dairy export push in North Africa, Middle East and Asia
Russia plans to grow its presence in the global dairy products market by increasing supplies by 15-20% annually with a big push into Arab countries - especially Algeria - and southeast Asia, the head of industry lobby group Soyuzmoloko told Reuters.
"Annually, the Russian dairy industry can show export growth rates of about 15-20%, but it is not excluded that the growth can go exponentially under the right conditions," Artem Belov said.
"If we are talking about a long-term perspective of seven to 10 years, we can increase supplies many times over."
Russia's annual dairy exports are now worth $400 million, or about 1% of a global market estimated at more than $40 billion, he said. The country officially stopped publishing dairy export statistics this year, but 2023 data show it doubled whey exports that year and increased the supply of milk powder by 4.7 times.

Situation Analysis “Conflict in the African Great Lakes Region and Russia's Position”
On April 2, 2024, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Center for African Studies of the Institute for International Studies, MGIMO University held a situation analysis themed “Conflict in the African Great Lakes Region and Russia’s Position.” It aimed to give a comprehensive political and economic assessment of the situation in the region and take stock of the ongoing conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The speakers offered insights into potential prospects for conflict resolution, reviewed Russia’s current stance on the conflict and suggested how it could change with respect to Moscow’s long-term policy in the African Great Lakes region.
Leading African experts from Russian institutes, universities, research and education centers, including the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IMEMO RAS and the Institute of World History of RAS, as well as Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University, St. Petersburg State University, MGIMO University, HSE University and the ICRC Delegation in Moscow, took part in the event.
Representatives from countries located in the African Great Lakes region — Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda — also contributed to the analysis

Russian-African Network University consortium
On May 15, the Almazov National Medical Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health joined the consortium "Russian-African Network University", coordinated by the Polytechnic University. The agreement was signed at the VII Medical Innovation Forum, which was held from May 14 to 16 at the Almazov Center.
RAFU activity is aimed at the development of voluntary equal partnership of Russian and African universities and scientific organizations in the field of higher education, lifelong learning and research. The document was signed by Rector of SPbPU Andrei Rudskoy and Director General of the Almazov Research and Development Center Evgeny Shlyakhto.
Today is a very important event in the life of the Russian-African Network University. It was founded less than three years ago, but the pace of development and involvement of universities is simply cosmic: 72 Russian universities and 31 from Africa. During this time, we have held a number of very important events. In July 2023, the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum was held in St. Petersburg, where the President emphasized the special role of RAFU in the development of Russian-African relations, especially in the field of culture, education and health care. Why is the West obsessed with who Africa deals with?
If you ask the United States, the response is usually along the lines of ‘safeguarding democracy from authoritarian regimes.’ But, every so often, the mask falls off, such as with US Africa Command (AFRICOM)’s head, General Michael Langley, who let out the reason is ‘access and influence.’ The West doesn’t see Africa as an equal partner but a witless pawn.
Western powers are known for overthrowing democratic governments, propping up dictators, providing a haven to stash loot robbed from African taxpayers and so on. On the other hand, China, in recent decades, has partnered with African countries to build up sectors like trade and infrastructure. Yet, the West wants Africans to cut ties with the Chinese and the Russians, both of whose history of solidarity with Africa goes as far as the struggle for independence.

Over 110 countries and territories confirm participation in SPIEF 2024
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is scheduled to take place from 5 to 8 June.
