📢 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - ICPC TEAM REGISTRATION

Dear Contestants & Coaches, ⚠️ Have you noticed the “Predicted Ineligible” tag on your team? Don’t panic but please take action immediately. The “Predicted Ineligible” status does not necessarily mean that your team is permanently ineligible. It means the ICPC registration system has detected a possible issue with one or more team members’ eligibility or registration information.

What You Need to Do

👤 For each contestant: - Log in to your ICPC account. - Check your profile and registration information. - Make sure all required information is complete and correct. - Resolve any missing or incorrect information. 👨‍🏫 For the Team Coach: Once ALL team members have completed and verified their registration: - Open the team page - Select “Revalidate” - Check the updated eligibility status If your team currently has the “Predicted Ineligible” tag, resolve any issues as soon as possible. 🔔 The tag is a warning that your registration may require attention.

🕒 IMPORTANT UPDATE: ETCPC 2026 Shifted Just 1 Day Later Dear Participants and Coaches, To better accommodate travel logistics for all university delegations, the EtCPC 2026 schedule has been officially adjusted by one day. The event will now take place from October 9 to October 10, 2026. Updated Event Schedule: Friday, October 9 (Arrival and Preparation): Contestants will arrive at ASTU. The day's schedule includes dormitory check-in, official orientation, and the Practice Contest. Please remember to bring your own bed sheets. Saturday, October 10 (Main Contest): The competition will take place, concluding with the final results and the closing ceremony. We look forward to welcoming you to the ASTU campus this Friday.

📢 ETCPC 2026 QUALIFICATION CONTEST — REMINDER ⏰ Please arrive at the Lab Gate before 8:00 LT to ensure a smooth contest process. 💻 Bring your laptop: 1 laptop per team is required. ⚠️ Eligibility Reminder: If every member of your team is a CSEC ASTU member, you do not need to participate.

If even ONE member is not a CSEC ASTU member, the entire team must participate in the Qualification Contest.

📢 CLARIFICATION — ETCPC 2026 QUALIFICATION CONTEST To clarify the eligibility for the ETCPC 2026 Qualification Contest:

The qualification contest is for ASTU teams where at least one team member is NOT a member of CSEC ASTU.

👉 If every member of your team is a CSEC ASTU member: You do not need to participate in the qualification contest. 👉 If even ONE member of your team is not a CSEC ASTU member: Your entire team must compete in the Qualification Contest to earn a spot in ETCPC 2026.

🔥🔥 Sunday Tech Talk THE FBI GOT HACKED. BUT HOW DID IT HAPPEN? Most people think security means protecting your own code. But what if the weak point is a system you trust?

Your security is only as strong as the systems connected to it.

The FBI's job portals were taken offline after ShinyHunters claimed access to sensitive data -reportedly 2-3 TB. The portals use Oracle PeopleSoft, a third-party platform with a critical vulnerability: CVE-2026-35273 It could allow attackers to run code remotely without logging in. While waiting to patch, many organizations blocked the vulnerable path. But the attackers changed just one character: /PSEMHUB/hub → blocked /%50SEMHUB/hub → allowed The firewall saw something different.

The server didn't.

And that's the lesson:

❌ “We blocked it, so we're safe.” ✅ “Patch it. Verify it. Keep monitoring.”

Security isn't only about: Your code. It also includes: Your vendors + dependencies + servers.

Protect your front door. But don't forget the keys you trust.

🔥 Sunday Tech Talk HOW DOES A COMPUTER FIND THE BEST WAY FROM A TO B? Imagine there are 100 possible roads to your destination. Would you try every road?

Probably not.

You'd look at where you are, where you're going, and choose the path that makes the most sense. That's the idea behind A*. Instead of searching everywhere, A* asks:

“Which path looks most promising?”

It uses: f(n) = g(n) + h(n) g(n) → cost already spent h(n) → estimated cost to the destination The h(n) is called a heuristic.

❌ Search everything blindly. ✅ Use what you know to search smarter.

That's why A* is used in:

🗺 Navigation 🎮 Video games 🤖 Robotics

For competitive programmers, the lesson is simple: It's not always about searching more.

It's about knowing where to look.

🔥 Sunday Tech Talk HOW DOES AI KNOW AN APPLE IS A FRUIT AND NOT A PHONE? Most people think AI simply reads words and understands their meaning. But that's not quite how it works. Meet Vector Embeddings. Instead of storing meaning as words, AI turns concepts into numbers called vectors. Think of it like a map:

🍎 Apple (fruit) → close to → Banana, Orange, Mango 📱 Apple (company) → close to → iPhone, Mac, iPad

The closer the vectors, the more similar the meaning. That's why AI can understand that:

“tasty red breakfast fruit”

is probably talking about an apple — even when the word apple isn't there. A common misconception:

❌ AI understands concepts exactly like humans. ✅ AI represents relationships mathematically and measures how close they are.
