IF YOU BUILD A WEBSITE TODAY, DOES GOOGLE AUTOMATICALLY KNOW IT EXISTS?
Most people think yes.
But being online doesn't always mean being searchable.
Think about this:
Is your Gmail inbox part of the Surface Web, Deep Web, or Dark Web?The answer:
Deep Web.It's online, but Google can't search your emails. The internet is often compared to an iceberg:
Surface Web — Public and searchable. Deep Web — Online but not searchable by the public. Dark Web — Intentionally hidden networks.A common misconception:
❌ Deep Web = Illegal ✅ Deep Web = Hidden from public searchSo if Google can't find a website...
Does that mean it's on the Dark Web?No. A website can be normal and still never appear in search results.
Not everything online is searchable.
And not everything hidden is illegal.

WHY CAN A DATABASE FIND 1 RECORD AMONG 1 BILLION SO QUICKLY?
B-Trees.
Imagine trying to find one name in a 1-million-page phone book.
❌ Read every page. ✅ Open the index and jump straight to it.Databases do the same thing. Without an index, they may have to check rows one by one.
Database → Row → Row → Row → 😴With a B-Tree index:
Jump close to the answer immediately. Search huge amounts of data efficiently. Stay fast even as the database grows. The difference is simple:
❌ Full table scan - read every row on disk ✅ B-Tree index - jump straight to your record in 3-4 steps
That's why a query on billions of records can still feel instant.
Smart programmers don't just store data they make it easy to find.
