🚨 DAY 4 : 30 DAYS ETHICS ENRICHMENT SERIES 📚 Topic: Stereotype, Discrimination, and Prejudice 📖 Meaning : Stereotype : A stereotype is a generalized belief or assumption about a particular group of people. Ethically, stereotypes can be problematic because they reduce individuals to simplistic traits, ignoring their unique characteristics and experiences. Discrimination : Discrimination involves treating individuals unfairly or unjustly based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, or religion. Ethically, discrimination violates principles of justice and equality. Prejudice : Prejudice refers to preconceived opinions or judgments about individuals or groups, often based on stereotypes. It can lead to negative attitudes and behaviors that contribute to social injustice. Ethically, prejudice poses significant challenges to social cohesion and the promotion of a just society The interplay between these concepts highlights ethical dilemmas in social interactions and institutional practices. For instance, stereotypes can lead to prejudicial attitudes, which, in turn, can result in discriminatory behaviors. Solutions: 1. Self-esteem hypothesis : The self-esteem hypothesis suggests that individuals with higher self-esteem are more likely to engage in positive social behaviors. 2. Direct-contact hypothesis : It posits that direct contact between members of different social groups can reduce prejudice and improve intergroup relations. 3. Cooperation hypothesis : It highlights that cooperative interactions(towards a common goal) between individuals or groups can lead to improved relationships, reduced prejudice, and enhanced problem-solving abilities. 4. Legal Hypothesis : It says that specific legal frameworks, policies, or interventions can effectively decrease bias and discrimination in society. In 2024 CSAT, I scored 115. Yet I need to confess that I am one among those who have been perpetually afraid of Maths all my life. Nor I have been that good in English. Thankfully I have been able to cross CSAT cut-off every time with a safe margin. And if you are even half as anxious as I was about CSAT before the exam, this post may help you !!! 1. Acknowledge that there exists a CSAT exam !!! Many people do not even give CSAT the importance it deserves. I can bet many of you who are reading the post have not yet given 2-3 FLTs. 2. Do not put all eggs in one basket: You cannot solely rely on either Maths or Comprehension. You have to do a mix of both. Do not enter the exam hall with the mindset that only one section will help you sail through. 3. All questions carry equal marks in CSAT. But some questions carry more ROI. Didn't get it? I have always found some questions like the ones on directions or clock to be easier. So solving those questions would not only fetch me sure-shot marks but also save time for other questions. So identify your strengths. 4. A lot of questions in Quants can be solved even manually and you don't need to know the formula for them. You can't memorize so many formulas either now. Instead what you can do is Avoid silly mistakes in calculation like multiplication/division etc. This will save you at least 2-3 questions. 4. However, if solved without formula, some of those would require even 4-5 minutes. Don't go after them. Keep your ego aside and skip them for later. Identify them as soon as you see them or within the 30-40 seconds. Don't be possessive that you have spent so much time. Move on. 5. Do not solve all comprehensions at once or all quants questions at once. Instead, solve some comprehensions and then some quants and the some comprehensions. This will give some break to your brain. 6. 2024 CSAT was easy compared to 2023 CSAT. But this should not turn you complacent. UPSC can on any day flip the coin. Be ready for some more difficulty. 7. If you haven't given the simulators till today, do it now. You should give GS and CSAT the same day. So many people attend Open mocks for GS and the return to their PG without attending CSAT. Remember by skipping CSAT Open mock, you are not saving time. 8. All discussions after the exam: Last but not the least, on the exam day, even if you discuss one GS question before CSAT, it will create an impact on your mind. Chances are that you might have marked the different option than the person with whom you discuss the paper. It will only add up to your anxiety. 9. Nobody in the world is more over-confident than the person who discusses the GS questions before CSAT and starts giving the cutoff prediction. In my six years of prep, I can surely say content wise this PYQ book gives a better option as it covers the entire static part of question asked! For example if Question is on President, a lot of additional information is given on president! So doing this will help you cover many major repeating chunks of static!
