والعرب كان من شأنها أن تذمَّ الدهرَ وتسبَّه عند الحوادث والنوازلِ تنزل بهم من موتٍ أو هَرمٍ فيقولون: أصابتهم قوارِعُ الدَّهر وحوادثُه، وأبادهم الدَّهرُ، فيجعلون الدهرَ الذي يفعل ذلك، فيذمّونه.
