| 2 | Boeung Trakaun, Chouk Chey, Prey Chan — Still Waiting
More than six months after the December 27 ceasefire came into effect, Thai razor wire and shipping containers continue to block access to Chouk Chey and Prey Chan villages, as well as the Boeung Trakaun area in Banteay Meanchey province.
As of July 10, provincial authorities report that 63 shipping container have been placed in Chouk Chey village, 10 in Prey Chan and 26 across four villages in the Boeung Trakaun area. The maps and photographs below show areas that Cambodia says remain occupied by Thai forces.
An aerial view of the "waiting village" shows displaced families beginning new lives after fleeing the border conflict, even as they continue to hope for the day they can return to their original homes. The settlement is continuing to expand, with new houses, schools a health centre and other infrastructure being developed to support families. Photographs by Hong Raksmey | 410 |
