New York City police have released CCTV and bodycam footage showing the moment federal immigration officers opened fire on a Dominican man during an arrest in New York.
Oscar Belgal, 28, was shot in the neck as he drove with his 5-year-old son in the car on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
ICE officers opened fire on Belgal because he drove his car into officers’ vehicles, leading them to believe their lives were in danger, a senior ICE official claimed on Friday.
However, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Belgal was pulling into a parking space when a plainclothes federal officer approached with a gun drawn.
Belgal began to pull the car forward, and at least one of the officers fired seven rounds, striking him below his left ear, Tisch said at a news conference near the scene late on Thursday.
