US President Trump says ceasefire with Iran is “over” and that he doesn’t want to deal with Iranians anymore, calling them “scum” during a presser with NATO Secretary General Rutte on the sidelines of the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara

US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran is effectively over, stating, "I think the ceasefire with Iran is over; I do not want to deal with this scum anymore," during his remarks at the NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, on July 8.
When asked whether diplomatic talks would resume, the President remarked that Iran "can talk" but emphasised that doing so would be “wasting their time.”
His comments come after the US military conducted a new wave of strikes against more than 80 targets across Iran in the early hours of July 8 in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed.

The blasts happened while Macron was on an official visit meeting Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa at the People’s Palace. Macron did not hear the explosions, according to the Elysee, and continued with his schedule. He is the first EU head of state to visit Syria since the fall of the Assad regime in 2024. The cause of the blasts remains unclear

The United States was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup after a 4–1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16, following an unprecedented FIFA controversy surrounding US striker Folarin Balogun’s eligibility
.Balogun was included in the United States’ starting lineup after FIFA lifted his one-match suspension in a decision that sparked widespread criticism across the sport
.The suspension stemmed from a red card issued by Brazilian referee Raphael Claus during the Americans’ 2–0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, when Balogun was sent off for stepping on an opponent’s ankle. The dismissal carried an automatic one-game suspension.

The Belgian football federation (RBFA) has demanded an explanation after FIFA controversially lifted an automatic one-game suspension for US forward Folarin Balogun, clearing him to play in the July 6 round of 16 clash against Belgium. Balogun had received a red card in the group stage against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The unprecedented reversal, reportedly following an intervention by US President Donald Trump, sparked widespread outrage. The RBFA says it has received no formal explanation from FIFA and is challenging Balogun’s eligibility to feature in the match. The European Commission has also criticised the move, warning that political interference in sport undermines its autonomy.
