Israel’s UN delegation left the General Assembly hall as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a powerful speech condemning Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza. Erdogan accused Israel of “acts of state terror” and called Gaza “the most inhumane and shameful concentration camp of our time.”

A tablet fragment unearthed at Hattusa, the ancient Hittite capital in Türkiye, has been identified as part of a copy of the Kadesh Peace Treaty. Dating to the 13th century BC, the treaty is one of the earliest known written peace agreements marking the end of the conflict between the Hittite and Egyptian kingdoms.

An eyewitness video shows 28-year-old Venezuelan immigrant Wilber Rafael Garces Perez wounded inside his vehicle after an ICE agent shot him in Austin, Texas, on September 20. Garces Perez was taken to hospital, but his attorney said he was removed from hospital four hours after being shot, with the bullet still lodged in his body, and transported to the South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall for interrogation. His attorney alleges he received no pain medication and had to sleep on the floor. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement that Garces Perez was an “illegal alien” who had “illegally entered” the United States. His attorney, however, clarified that he had “entered lawfully through a probation program seeking asylum and has a valid work permit.”

The UN’s International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is observed on September 21 to promote an end to war and violence. Ukraine launched a massive overnight drone swarm on Russia. Officials in Moscow say from the swarm, over 1,100 drones were intercepted in regions across the country. Over 450 drones were destroyed over the capital, while strikes damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building. Authorities reported at least two deaths and 20 injuries in the wider Moscow region. The attack came on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, which Russia accuses Ukraine of trying to disrupt.
