| 2 |  Comparative Adjectives in Russian: Other Endings & Forms
In Russian, the comparative degree isn’t only formed with ‑ее / ‑ей. Here are the other common patterns.
Other suffixes
‑е (often with consonant alternation):
лёгкий → легче (k/ch), громкий → громче (k/ch), близкий → ближе (k/zh).
🇷🇺Example: Этот рюкзак легче, чем тот. → “This backpack is lighter than that one.”
‑ше:
старый → старше, далёкий → дальше.
🇷🇺Example: Мой брат старше меня. → “My brother is older than me.”
Important irregular forms (different root)
Some adjectives don’t use suffixes at all — they change the whole root:
хороший → лучше → “better”
плохой → хуже → “worse”
маленький → меньше → “smaller / less”
🇷🇺Example: Сегодня погода хуже, чем вчера. → “The weather today is worse than yesterday.” | 105 |

🔹 Мужской род (какой?) — -ый / -ий / -ой
Пример: новый дом, синий шар, большой город
Translation: masculine gender endings: -ый / -ий / -ой. Example: a new house, a blue ball, a big city.
🔹 Женский род (какая?) — -ая / -яя
Пример: новая книга, синяя сумка
Translation: feminine gender endings: -ая / -яя. Example: a new book, a blue bag.
🔹 Средний род (какое?) — -ое / -ее

| 10 | ⬆️ Too lazy to watch? Here's a quick summary. During the Cold War, the director of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson wanted authentically British-sounding music. He'd heard a great tune on the radio and gave the composer, Dashkevich, a deadline to listen and copy the style. But Dashkevich was swamped (некогда) and missed the cue. When the recording session arrived, the desperate composer improvised something on the spot over the phone without ever hearing the original. That's how the iconic theme we all know in Russia was born — out of sheer desperation, not inspiration. It instantly became his signature piece.
It's proof that true genius doesn't wait for ideal conditions or the right vibe (настроение). Unlike today's million-view Reels that vanish from memory tomorrow, real art lasts forever.

| 11 | ⬆️Если лень смотреть, расскажу вкратце: режиссер фильма «Приключения Шерлока Холмса и доктора Ватсона» просил композитора написать музыку для фильма с абсолютно британским звучанием. Дело было во времена холодной войны. Режиссер нашел на радио нужную мелодию и попросил композитора в точное время прослушать её и написать нечто в этом стиле. Долго просил послушать радиозаставку. Очень долго. А композитору (Дашкевич его фамилия) было некогда. Вообще некогда. А потом нужно было уже записывать музыку. И режиссер позвонил композитору. И спросил уже: послушал, готово? А ничего не готово. Некогда было композитору.
И всё. И композитор просто от безвыходности наиграл быстро что-то по телефону. Ничего он не слушал. Некогда ему было. Но в этот момент волнения он сыграл ту самую музыку, которую знает в России каждый человек. Внезапная мелодия стала шедевром. Музыка к этому фильму- его визитная карточка. Все в России знают эту музыку.
И это история про талант, не про удачу. Это сегодня рилс залетает на миллионы, но его потом никто не вспомнит. Настоящий талант не нуждается ни в нужном настроении, ни в погоде, ни в чём.
Таких историй очень много. Я уверена, каждый из вас знает такие.
