Shocked by what she saw, Abharani immediately started Madhurmayee Aadarsha Siksha Niketan that same year providing these children of prisoners with not only food & shelter but more importantly education.
Besides, they are also provided the less tangible but most important thing... PARENTAL AFFECTION !
Today, Abharani Choudhury runs the shelter with her daughter, psychologist Matrumayee Priyadarshini.
The institution has supported more than 200 children since its inception, with the organisation also helping create pathways towards higher education, skill development and employment.
