2. "PHOS" SHOULDN'T LOSE THEIR TITLES IN KNPHI TO BE "HEALTH PROTECTION OFFICERS / ASSISTANTS" - LET IT JUST REMAIN "PHO"
Public Health is wide.
Downgrading our parent division into KNPHI would be failing Bora Afya.
PHOs can work in NACADA, NEMA, KEBS, Government Chemist and KNPHI. - Not just restricting us in KNPHI
Parastatals are purely operational.
Even KMA sits in KEMSA and SHA.
The Clinicians have a Division of HIV/STI and still have NASCOP.
We have TCB and it's Division on Drug & Substance Abuse.
We have Division of Curative Services and Division of National Referral Services while we still have Curative Health level 6 parastatals like KNH, JOOTRH, MTRH, KUTRRH, MKH, NSIRH, and MNTRH. - Doctors didn't need to kill their division to firm their national referral hospitals
We have a Division of Digital Health when we still have DHA.
We have DPHT with 3 divisions while we have KEMSA.
And I can still go on.
There's no good reason why EH should go to KNPHI.
Every institution or parastatal is entitled to have own EH department.- Where PHOs are stationed
DEH at Afya House is still very key for national PHOs professional policymaking.
Downgrading DEH to a division under KPNHI would an be insult to the 9,000 registered PHOs. - 5% of the health workforce
It can't be all the other health professions have their parent division at Afya House and ours go to KNPHI where they would need to seek approval from a Director or DG on matters affecting our PH practice.
KNPHI is wrong to change our operational titles to Health Protection Officers, we are authorised officers in our work.
Messing with PHOs practice is health insecurity.
It is wrong that DG KNPHI will be a Medical Doctor or a Dentist.- Unfortunately I have abandoned that take because you must prioritize
Unfortunately KNPHI has been prepared carefully to take away from PHOs.
First they took away our divisions.- Now they have taken away our titles
Everyone can be employed as a KNPHI Health Protection Officer.
Huu mchezo ndio walileta kwa CHAs na PHOs lost their speciality. - Even the CHAs aren't in control of themselves
Health Protection Officer is purposed to take away our Public Health Inspection role.
Already QHPSA on a bill in Parliament will take away Inspection of health facilities and give it to their inspectors.
Any KNPHI PHO job description should remain titled PHO. - Even Lab guys have retained their identity
We started NACADA and currently it doesn't employ any PHO.

1. Any CHA with Diploma / Degree in Environmental Health / Public Health plus a PHOTC licence is a PHO therefore qualified to apply.
2. 20% CHAs / CHOs upgrade into PHOs papers.
3. Many PHOs have other qualifications too.
I know a minority of PHOs with:
1. BSc in Counseling Psychology
2. Diploma in Community Health
3. HND in Health Promotion
4. BSc in Social Work
5. LLB
6. BEd
7. KRCHN
8. Diploma in Clinical Medicine
So it is no surprise some 10% CHAs are PHOs registered by PHOTC.
These are the fruits of Kibaki Presidency.

| 13 | BUSIA COUNTY ENDS PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICERS' STRIKE, SIGNS A RECOGNITION AGREEMENT DEAL
The County Government of Busia has today signed a recognition agreement with the Kenya Environmental Health & Public Health Practitioners Union (KEHPHPU) Busia branch, witnessed by national union officials. The legal document will strengthen engagement between the two parties and boost service delivery, empowering Public Health Officers who play a critical frontline role in disease surveillance, sanitation inspection, outbreak prevention, and hygiene promotion in communities across the county.
Deputy Governor, H.E Arthur Odera said the county has now signed similar agreements across multiple sectors, underscoring its commitment to strong working relationships with employees and a solid platform for service delivery going forward. In response, KEHPHPU National General Secretary, Brown Ashira called off the strike among Busia's Public Health Officers, noting the ongoing national strike is county-specific and that Busia has already resolved most of the issues raised.
