As I grew older, I saw people, friends and relatives slowly turn into our parents. At some age, most of us begin to notice the gaps in our parents: their thinking, their reasoning, and how much further we've progressed than them.
But over time, those gaps begin to shrink. You start to see the transition from one generation to the next, and the distance that once felt so obvious becomes tiny, while progress itself starts to feel much slower.
