🗣 Epstein Filings: Jeffrey Epstein Victims Sued Leslie Wexner, Now It's Voluntarily Dismissed in SDNY without explanation in the docket
Jeffrey Epstein victims sued Leslie Wexner and 9 East 71st Street Corporation in New York State court, for gender-motivated violence, under the statute.
The defendants have tried to remove the case to Federal court, arguing there is no diversity jurisdiction.
On April 29 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge John G. Koeltl held a conference.
INNER CITY PRESS WAS THERE:
Lawyer for "9 East" Dan Ruzumna of Patterson Belknap:
9 East has been dissolved for more than a decade. It's been fully wound down. Mr. Merson said there was one issue to be briefed - but there are more reasons for dismissal.
Judge Koeltl:
It will make me time to decide the motion to remand. The parties have left it up on the air what goes into the motion to dismiss by 9 East 71st St. What's the timing?
9 East's 2d lawyer, Bennet Moskowitz of Troutman Pepper:
We'd like 2 week to reply
Judge Koeltl: I'm enter another order, including on 9 East's partial motion to dismiss by May 21, to June 25. Anything else?
Wexner and Wexner Foundation lawyer Marion Little of Zeiger TIgges:
Sounds like the plaintiffs are not amending the complaint.
Wexner's lawyer:
We question if this court can exercise personal jurisdiction over my Ohio-based client. Can you grant us leave to file our motion to dismiss?
Judge Koeltl:
No - I thought the parties have agreed to delay that until I decide the motion to remand.
[Complaint quotes Epstein email of June 14, 2014 that he "never ever did anything without informing les" and he'd "never give him up." ]
On August 31, mysteriously and with no other detail, this "NOTICE OF VOLUNTARY DISMISSAL pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(A)(i) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the plaintiff(s) and or their counsel(s), hereby give notice that the above-captioned action is voluntarily dismissed, without prejudice against the defendant(s) All Defendants. Document filed by All Plaintiffs."

| 10 | Mamdani pushes back on criticism for not appointing Jewish member to Judiciary Advisory Committee
New York City's Mayor Zohran Mamdani was pressed on why he did not appoint any Jewish person to his Judiciary Advisory Committee.
He responded by explaining there was no religious motivation to the choices made.
🗣Mamdani explained that John Leventhal, a retired justice who had been recommended to the Mayor's office, was rejected because he was part of Ghislaine Maxwell's legal defence team.
"We thought it best to avoid any association between the committee that would be appointing judges and the Epstein world," said Mamdani.
"Especially given how much of a loss of faith it has created for many New Yorkers and Americans generally in our legal and our political system" he added.

| 11 | The Epstein scandal is refusing to disappear, and one survivor is now accusing federal authorities of leaving potentially explosive leads sitting on the table.
Dani Bensky, an Epstein survivor and prominent advocate for other victims, claimed that survivors have repeatedly provided information about other alleged perpetrators, only to encounter what she described as resistance from the US Department of Justice and FBI.
Her allegations come as New Mexico moves to revive an investigation connected to Jeffrey Epstein's former Zorro Ranch, raising fresh questions about why some investigative avenues were left dormant for years.
Survivors Say Federal Authorities Ignored Leads
Bensky said she recently spoke with investigators from the New Mexico Attorney General's Office and described the meeting as dramatically different from her previous experiences with federal law enforcement.
She said investigators were interested in establishing patterns across Epstein's alleged trafficking operation and were seeking access to federal files.
Bensky also said the New Mexico officials appeared willing to work with survivors and pursue information that could potentially connect cases across different states and locations.
'They really want to establish patterns,' Bensky said during the podcast, explaining that incidents in Florida, New Mexico, New York and elsewhere could potentially provide information relevant to one another.
Her comments stand in sharp contrast to her description of dealing with the federal government.
Bensky claimed survivors have repeatedly brought investigative leads to the DOJ, FBI and members of Congress, but said those efforts have often ended without meaningful follow-up.
She alleged that survivors know of other people who could face scrutiny and that some women are willing to speak with investigators about their experiences.

| 12 | 🇳🇴 As King Haakon of Norway ascends the throne after the death of his father, the former naval officer must steer a royal family in crisis towards calmer shores.
The King, 53, has endured a string of royal scandals in recent years linked to his stepson, Marius Borg Høiby; his wife Mette-Marit, now the Queen; and his sister, Martha-Louise.
Opinion polls suggest there is a crisis of confidence in the royal family. A survey found that one in three Norwegians wanted the monarchy to be abolished upon the death of King Harald.
The most damaging revelations have centred on Borg Høiby, 29, the new King’s stepson, who was convicted of rape and assault in June and sentenced to four years in prison.
A few months before the trial began, the royal family was engulfed by another scandal as Norwegian media revealed that Mette-Marit had been a friend of Jeffrey Epstein in the early 2010s.

A Brazilian doctor whose wife set off a firestorm by linking President Donald Trump and the first lady to Jeffrey Epstein fled from Miami-Dade days before he was set to go to trial for allegedly conducting cosmetic procedures without a license.
Joao Araujo, 57, is now on the lam, telling a Brazilian journalist Sunday he “escaped the U.S. I’m a fugitive now. With honor.”
It’s unclear what Araujo’s whereabouts are, although he is likely in Brazil, which generally does not extradite its citizens.
Araujo, a renowned plastic surgeon in Brazil, and his wife Amanda Ungaro, 41, were arrested last year by Aventura police and charged with organized scheme to defraud, grand theft and unlicensed practice of medicine.
The duo were accused of conducting cosmetic procedures without a license at their wellness center in Aventura.
Ungaro, a former model and diplomat in the first Trump administration, made headlines in April because she posted on X that the first lady “should be afraid of what I know … of who you are, and who your husband is.”
Ungaro, who came to the United States on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet when she was 16, was deported to Brazil in October.
She claims her deportation was instigated by her former partner, Paolo Zampolli, a longtime Trump ally and a current Trump administration envoy.
She accused Zampolli of using his influence to pressure the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deport her to gain custody of their 16-year-old son.
