| 2 | What is Asset Tokenisation?
Asset tokenisation is the process of converting ownership rights of a real-world or financial asset into digital tokens on a blockchain.
Each token represents a fractional ownership or claim over the underlying asset and can be bought, sold, or transferred digitally.
Examples
• 🏠 Real estate → property split into digital tokens
• 🪙 Gold → gold-backed tokens
• 📈 Stocks/Bonds → tokenised securities
• 🎨 Art / collectibles → fractional digital ownership
• 🏭 Infrastructure / carbon credits / invoices → tradable tokens
In simple terms: Asset tokenisation = making assets digitally tradable in smaller units using blockchain.
🔧 How it works
1. Identify asset (land, gold, bond, etc.)
2. Legal structuring (SPV / trust / custodian holds asset)
3. Token issuance on blockchain
4. Investors buy tokens
5. Trading & settlement happen digitally
Advantages (Pros)
1️⃣ Fractional Ownership
• Expensive assets become affordable
• Small investors can participate
• Example: ₹1 crore property → 1 lakh tokens of ₹100 each
2️⃣ Higher Liquidity
• Illiquid assets (real estate, art) become tradable
• 24×7 markets possible
3️⃣ Transparency & Trust
• Blockchain ensures immutable records
• Ownership history is traceable
4️⃣ Faster & Cheaper Transactions
• Reduced intermediaries (brokers, registrars)
• Near-instant settlement (T+0)
5️⃣ Global Access
• Cross-border investments become easier
• Broader investor base
6️⃣ Efficient Capital Formation
• Helps unlock value of dormant assets
• Useful for MSMEs, infrastructure financing
Disadvantages (Cons)
1️⃣ Regulatory Uncertainty
• Laws unclear in many countries (including India)
• Classification issues: security? commodity? crypto?
2️⃣ Legal Enforceability Risks
• Token ownership must be legally linked to real asset
• Disputes may arise in courts
3️⃣ Cyber & Technology Risks
• Smart contract bugs
• Hacking, wallet theft
4️⃣ Market Volatility
• Token prices may fluctuate sharply
• Risk of speculation
5️⃣ Custody & Governance Issues
• Who safeguards the real asset?
• Risk of mismanagement or fraud
6️⃣ Low Financial Literacy
• Retail investors may not understand risks
• Mis-selling concerns | 3 306 |

| 15 | “Discuss the significance of World Bank assistance for India’s development.”
Introduction
World Bank Group is a multilateral development institution comprising five organisations that provide development finance, private-sector investment, guarantees and investment-dispute settlement.
Body
Significance for India:
1. Infrastructure financing
2. Employment generation
3. Renewable energy transition
4. Human-capital development
5. State-level development
6. Private capital mobilisation
7. Institutional reforms
8. Climate resilience
Current examples
• $1.5 billion private-sector jobs financing — 2026
• $820 million IBRD loan for PM Surya Ghar — 2026
• FY2026–31 India Country Partnership Framework
• $300 million Haryana clean-air programme
Challenges
• conditionality
• debt sustainability
• environmental/social concerns
• representation/voting structure.
Conclusion
India’s engagement with the World Bank is increasingly moving from traditional development assistance toward a partnership model combining finance, reforms, knowledge and private-capital mobilisation. | 6 845 |
| 16 | “Trade wars undermine the gains of globalisation. Discuss their implications for India.”
Answer structure
Introduction:
Trade wars represent a shift from rules-based trade liberalisation towards protectionism and strategic economic competition.
Challenges for India:
• Export uncertainty
• Pressure on labour-intensive sectors
• Supply-chain disruption
• Dumping
• Inflation
• FPI volatility
• WTO challenges
Opportunities:
• China+1
• FDI inflows
• Manufacturing
• Export diversification
• Supply-chain integration
• Greater domestic value addition
Way forward:
• Diversify export markets
• Improve logistics and competitiveness
• Negotiate FTAs
• Strengthen trade remedies
• Support affected MSME exporters
• Integrate with global value chains
• Defend multilateral rules through WTO
Conclusion
India should avoid both protectionist isolation and excessive external dependence; the optimal strategy is competitive integration—using trade agreements, domestic competitiveness and diversified supply chains to convert trade fragmentation into an opportunity. | 5 173 |
| 17 | “De-dollarization is gaining momentum amid geopolitical fragmentation, but the US dollar continues to dominate the international monetary system. Discuss with reference to India.”
Introduction
The international monetary system is witnessing gradual diversification away from excessive dependence on the US dollar through local-currency settlement, reserve diversification, gold accumulation and alternative payment systems.
Drivers
• Geopolitical fragmentation
• Sanctions risk
• US monetary-policy spillovers
• Exchange-rate volatility
• Desire for strategic autonomy
• Rise of emerging economies
• Digital payment technology
India
• SRVA mechanism
• Rupee trade settlement
• Local-currency arrangements
• Rupee internationalisation
• CBDC/e₹
• BRICS payment cooperation
• August 2026 easing of rupee export-payment rules
Challenges
• Dollar network effects
• Deep US financial markets
• Limited rupee convertibility
• Need for greater rupee liquidity
• India’s trade deficit with several partners
• Need for stable macroeconomic fundamentals
Conclusion
The emerging trend is unlikely to be a sudden “end of the dollar”; rather, it is a transition from dollar dominance towards a more diversified and multipolar international monetary system. For India, the appropriate strategy is not to abandon the dollar but to reduce excessive dependence by internationalising the rupee, strengthening domestic financial markets and building resilient cross-border payment systems. | 5 291 |
