"What Happens When Ordinary People Are Given Unchecked Power?" In 1974, performance artist Marina Abramović placed 72 objects on a table. Some offered pleasure, a rose, honey and perfume. Others could cause pain, a knife, a whip, a gun and a bullet. For six hours, the audience could use any of these objects on her. Abramović would remain passive and assume responsibility for whatever happened. At first, people were gentle. Gradually, some became increasingly cruel. But when the performance ended and Abramović walked towards them as a person, they fled. *Rhythm 0* does not prove that human beings are naturally evil. But it raises disturbing questions about how behaviour can change when power becomes one-sided, resistance disappears and responsibility is dispersed across a crowd. Perhaps the deepest ethical question is this: How quickly can we cross the line into cruelty when we stop seeing another person as fully human? What does "Rhythm 0" reveal to you, something about human nature, unchecked power or the failure of bystanders to intervene? Students Follow the Rules. What About the System? Examinations do more than test knowledge. They distribute opportunities and shape lives. That is why a paper leak, an inaccurate answer key or a poorly handled re-examination is not merely an administrative problem. It is an ethical one. Students owe the system honesty. In return, the system owes them a fair chance, competence, honest communication, accountability and a fair remedy when things go wrong. This is the moral contract behind every examination. When that contract is broken, should students bear the cost? Watch The Ethics of Exams: Fairness, Trust and Accountability to explore what examination systems owe their students and why it matters. ▶️ Watch the full episode

What if failure is a turning point? We tend to give meaning to success very quickly. A promotion, an opportunity, a plan that works - these are easy to understand. Failure is harder. A setback can feel like delay, loss, or simply something that should not have happened. And yet, with time, some failures begin to look less like endings and more like turning points. They push us towards work we had not considered. They reveal abilities we had not needed before. This does not mean every setback is a blessing. But it does mean that meaning is not always visible in the moment. Sometimes, only later, do we realise that what seemed like a closed road was also a redirection. That is what makes W. Somerset Maugham’s The Verger such a fitting example. Has a setback ever become a turning point? Watch the short: The Verger by W. Somerset Maugham https://youtube.com/shorts/dMBtEhiwwP... #Ethics101 #TheVerger #SomersetMaugham #Failure #Meaning #Literature

The Ethics Brief | When Strength Becomes a Weakness We usually think our weaknesses get us into trouble. Sometimes they do. But strengths can be dangerous too. Courage can become recklessness. Confidence can become arrogance. Compassion can become indulgence. A virtue pushed too far can become a flaw. Without restraint, even our best qualities can get us into trouble. #Ethics101 #TheEthicsBrief #AppliedEthics #VirtueEthics #MoralJudgment #Character

What is ethical thinking built on? = Values tell us what matters. = Principles guide how we act. = Virtues shape who we become. = Rights and duties define what we owe one another. = Consequences make us examine what follows from our choices. = Justice asks whether the result and the process is fair. These are the 6 building blocks of ethics. The new Ethics101 episode breaks them down through simple examples and shows how they come together in ethical reasoning. The Ethics Brief | Human Underneath Set aside your ego. Set aside the belief you're defending. Set aside the fear you're protecting yourself from. What remains is not an opponent. Not an identity. Not a belief. But a human being, just like you and me. - K M Pathi #Ethics101 #TheEthicsBrief #AppliedEthics #Humanity #HumanDignity
