Daily context check — 4 November 2026
No confirmation, no trade — and that rule just dodged a $50 freight train. The ceiling never gave a sell signal, gold broke straight through it, and the book was flat for all of it.
Reading it:
What happened: this morning's plan had one condition — sell the ceiling at 3,955 – 3,965 only on a confirmed rejection, and stand down if price closed above the broken daily line at 3,975.8. The rejection never came. The dip held, the push never stalled, and gold displaced through the Asia high, through yesterday's top at 3,971.3, through the daily line itself, and printed 3,990. Our rule said hands off, so we watched a $50 rally from the sidelines with zero losses. That's what the confirmation rule is for. Why it matters: nothing in the big picture moved — bond yields unchanged, oil still cooling, the dollar flat. A $50 jump with no news, two days before the jobs report, smells like positioning: traders covering shorts ahead of Friday. Which is why we treat today as NEUTRAL, not as a new bull market. The plan: tactical buys only, half size. The pullback zones are 3,964.7 (the broken Asia high — the textbook retest) and 3,954.2 – 3,956.9 (the fresh gap below it), both after confirmation, stop below 3,950. Targets: 3,990, then the big test zone at 3,996 – 4,020 — profits come off INTO that zone, never through it, because that band is where the October downtrend defends itself. A confirmed failure there and we're sellers again; a 4-hour close above 4,020 and the bearish idea is officially retired. The catch: if price closes back below 3,964.7 on the hourly, today's break was a trap and the sell map returns. ADP jobs print tonight at 21:15 SGT — nothing new into it — and NFP Friday is the real verdict. We'll be flat for it, as always.

Today stays tactical: half size both ways, longs banked into the test zone rather than through it, sells only on a confirmed failure inside it, stops beyond the levels that actually hold — and everything flat before Friday's jobs report, which outranks every opinion on this chart. No confirmation = no trade.

The rules kept us out of the way of a $50 rip. This morning's plan said sell the ceiling ONLY on a confirmed failure — there wasn't one, so no trade — and gold then broke straight through 3,975.8 to 3,990. The day flips NEUTRAL: tactical buys at the pullback — 3,964.7 or the deeper 3,954.2 – 3,956.9 — half size, after confirmation, riding toward the big test at 3,996 – 4,020 where the whole October downtrend makes its stand. Profits banked INTO that zone, never through it. US jobs data tonight 21:15 SGT; the real judge is NFP Friday.
