❗️The Embassy of Russia in South Africa has noted with bewilderment the upcoming event featuring Anne Applebaum at one of Johannesburg-based think tanks. It is common knowledge that Anne Applebaum is a US neocon propagandist and a rabid warmonger, masquerading as a historian and journalist. ❌ Her entire career is built on propagating lies and disinformation about Russia and the Islamic world (including Iran, Palestine, and Iraq) that professional scholars have debunked time and time again.   Applebaum’s work has regularly faced criticism for excessive politicisation, ideological bias, and fanatical worship of the idea of the “strategic defeat” of both Moscow and Tehran. Her books on the Soviet Union are remarkable examples of historical revisionism and pure academic fraud. Applebaum’s pronounced anti-Russian and anti-Muslim stance, that she, one might say, wears as a badge of honour, reduces complex international processes to a simplistic conflict between “good democracy” and “bad autocracy”, where Western actions are, by default, seen as righteous and morally superior. She seeks to create a simplistic worldview, where perpetual enemies become a universal explanation for all the problems Western societies encounter. ☝️ While we fully acknowledge the right of South African institutions to choose their foreign associates, without slightest of contradiction, we can say that such warmongering cheerleaders as Anne Applebaum have neither the knowledge nor the intellectual capacity to provide contribution to any meaningful discourse. #TruthMatters

🇷🇺🇮🇳 The Russian Embassy in India: 📰 On July 19, The Pioneer newspaper published an article by Chargé d`affaires of Russia in India Vladimir Ladanov “NATO’s Proxy War against Russia Hurts India’s Interests” Key points: • NATO’s ambition to dominate the security space in Europe and its blatant disregard for Russia’s vital interests in its near abroad are at the heart of the current geopolitical conflagration. • When the Cold War ended with the breakup of the Soviet Union, the then US Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, one of the leading neocons of his time, developed a policy which came to be known as the Wolfowitz doctrine. In no uncertain terms, it advised that to preserve America’s hegemony, Russia should never be allowed to rise again. <...> Yet Russia has re-emerged from the ruin of the Soviet collapse and re-joined the ranks of the great powers. • After the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, NATO had squandered an historic opportunity to re-engage with Moscow on equal terms. And since then, by crossing the reddest of Russia’s geopolitical red lines, it has now found itself embroiled in a proxy war against it in Ukraine. Instead of ensuring security in the Euro-Atlantic area, NATO’s leaders, in their folly, have provoked the bloodiest military conflict on the continent since WWII. • Having become entangled in a giant mess of their own creation, NATO’s leadership are now facing a real prospect of their alliance breaking up - not only because US President Donald Trump wants to take over Denmark’s Greenland but also because he seeks a radical redistribution of burden sharing in NATO by ending a long-standing European habit of freeloading at American expense. • The Trump administration is no longer convinced in continuing its sizeable European military commitment and would like to be rid of the European problems irrelevant to America’s core interests. The European force posture review now conducted by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will likely result in the reduction of American troops stationed there. • Worse still for the Europeans, Donald Trump favours negotiating a deal with Russia to end the bloodshed. European warmongers are aghast at this prospect because, absent US support, their own position vis-à-vis Russia becomes weak. • With European states heavily committed to confronting Russia, they make poor security partners for India because their capabilities are tied down thousands of miles away with little to nothing to spare for upholding balance in the Indian Ocean and beyond. <...> With the Ukraine conflict raging on, unfunded and unsubstantiated European Indo-Pacific strategies bring little of real value to India’s table. • It is broadly accepted among India’s foreign policy and national security community that a strong, independent and prosperous Russia is vital for maintaining a balance of power favourable to India in Eurasia. Contrary to this, the dogged pursuit of Russia’s defeat by European elites pushes in the opposite direction, thereby complicating New Delhi’s balancing act and reducing its options. • It is logical to assume that an early termination of the Ukraine conflict and the rebuilding of normalcy between Russia and the West would be conducive to India’s external strategy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that “today’s era is not the era of war” clearly articulated to European capitals, would go a long way to achieving that objective. Read in full

#InMemoryOfDiplomats 🗓 On July 18, 1909, Andrey Gromyko was born, a statesman and politician, an outstanding Soviet diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR in 1957-1985. Gromyko went down in the history of the Russian diplomatic service as an unwavering defender of our country’s national interests. He was dubbed “Mister No” by his opponents for his firmness in defending Moscow’s positions in the international arena. Andrey Gromyko headed the Soviet diplomatic service for 28 years. During the period of ideological stand-off and tension between NATO and the Warsaw Pact Organization, Gromyko took part in preventing many global conflicts. He pursued a policy of normalizing relations with the United States and the West, advocated disarmament, consolidated post-war borders in Europe, and promoted detente. Gromyko made a hefty contribution to achieving strategic stability between the USSR and the United States: Important disarmament documents were signed that contributed to the detente – the Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests (1963), the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (1968), the ABM, SALT-I (1972-1973), and SALT-II (1979) treaties. During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, Gromyko’s efforts helped reach a compromise and avoid a global nuclear catastrophe. He participated in the Arab-Israeli negotiations in Geneva in 1973, mediated by the USSR and the United States, and helped thwart a large-scale war between India and Pakistan in 1966. Andrey Gromyko is one of the most revered figures in world politics of the 20th century. To this day, his name serves as the personification of the major achievements of Soviet foreign policy in the post-war period. ☝️ Gromyko’s diplomatic legacy continues to maintain the high authority of the Russian diplomatic service. #HistoryOfDiplomacy

#MandelaDay On Nelson Mandela International Day, we pay tribute to a man whose name became synonymous with the struggle for freedom, human dignity, and the power of reconciliation – Nelson #Mandela. This day also reminds us of the profound bond, the deep solidarity between our peoples enjoyed during the anti-apartheid struggle. At a time when many Western capitals viewed the apartheid regime through the prism of Cold War geopolitics and backed it accordingly, the Soviet Union stood among the few global powers that offered resolute and consistent support to South Africa's liberation forces. The USSR provided political, financial, military, and humanitarian assistance to the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party. The Soviet Union was also instrumental if forming the international framework for the decolonization processes, also led diplomatic efforts at the United Nations, co-authoring key resolutions like the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and the 1963 Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. 💬 Russia's President Vladimir Putin said: Russia cherishes the memory of Africa’s outstanding sons. We must remember them, and we must never forget them. <...> While relying on the principles of justice and equality, they staunchly promoted independent development for their nations, often sacrificing their lives. 💬 Vladimir Shubin, Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee official, noted: With our help, the armed struggle significantly contributed to the collapse of apartheid... The appearance of well-trained ANC fighters with modern weapons shocked the racist regime and inspired the oppressed majority. During his state visit to Moscow in 1999, Mandela said he felt profound gratitude for the "solidarity of the Russian people in the South African fight against apartheid and for freedom." Many decades later, that spirit of cooperation and our deep link endures. Today, #RussiaSouthAfrica jointly champion the principles of sovereignty and equality on international platforms and foras, including the #UN, #BRICS, and the #G20.

✍️ Congratulatory message from Roman Ambarov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa on Nelson Mandela International Day On the occasion of Nelson Mandela International Day, I extend my sincere congratulations to the Government and the people of the Republic of South Africa. This day stands as a powerful reminder of the life of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, whose unwavering dedication to justice, reconciliation, human rights, and peaceful coexistence continues to inspire millions and billions around the world. His vision of a society founded on fairness, inclusion, and dialogue remains as relevant today as ever and will continue to guide future generations. In Russia, the memory of Nelson Mandela is held in the highest regard. Since January 2023, a square bearing his name has stood in the eastern part of Moscow as a testament to his extraordinary legacy. In September 2024, a monument to Nelson Mandela was unveiled in the same square, symbolizing the deep respect of the Russian people for his lifelong struggle for freedom and justice, as well as the enduring example he set for generations to come. 🇷🇺🇿🇦 Russia highly values its strategic partnership and longstanding friendship with the Republic of South Africa, built on mutual trust, sovereign equality, and a shared commitment to a more just and multipolar international order. As we honour Madiba, we also reaffirm our determination to further strengthen cooperation between our two nations across the political, economic, cultural, educational, and humanitarian spheres for the benefit of our peoples. Today, I wish all South Africans peace, prosperity, and continued success. May Nelson Mandela International Day inspire acts of kindness, service, and solidarity, encouraging us all to uphold the ideals of compassion and understanding that President Mandela so nobly embodied. #AmbassadorAmbarov #MandelaDay2026

🇷🇺🇦🇿 On July 17, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, who is in Moscow on an official visit. 👉 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks The Ministers discussed a broad range of issues on the bilateral, regional, and international agenda. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening comprehensive bilateral cooperation with a view to fully realising the potential of the Declaration on Allied Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed at the highest level in Moscow on February 22, 2022. The Ministers expressed support for maintaining regular political dialogue, sustained contacts between the governments and parliaments of the two countries, and expanding interregional cooperation in keeping with the long-standing traditions of good-neighbourliness and mutual respect. They also reviewed the current state of trade, economic, and investment cooperation and discussed prospects for its further development, with an emphasis on implementing mutually beneficial projects, including in the transport and logistics sector. The importance of expanding cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere was also highlighted. The Russian Side reaffirmed its readiness to facilitate the normalisation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of the trilateral agreements reached at the highest level in 2020–2022. This includes supporting the conclusion of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, unblocking transport links, delimiting the state border, and fostering an atmosphere of trust between the peoples of the two countries. The Ministers also emphasised the importance of maintaining constructive cooperation among the Caspian Five and reaffirmed the need for continued regular engagement within the framework of the 3+3 Regional Cooperation Platform. 👉 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement and answers to media questions at a joint news conference following talks with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement and answers to media questions at a joint news conference following talks with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov (Moscow, July 17, 2026) 💬 Sergey Lavrov: My counterpart, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, and I have held constructive, substantive, and candid talks. We reaffirmed steady progress in our relations in the spirit of friendship and neighbourliness in line with the Declaration on Allied Interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan signed by President Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Moscow on February 22, 2022. We highlighted the continued Moscow-Baku dialogue at the top and high levels. On March 11, the presidents of the two countries held a telephone conversation during which the Russian leader expressed his appreciation to the Azerbaijani side for providing effective and friendly help in evacuating our citizens from Iran this spring, when the United States and Israel launched aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Our Azerbaijani friends and neighbours also lent Russia a helping hand in ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Iranian people via Azerbaijan. We took note of President Ilham Aliyev stating at the Shusha Forum on July 13 that the Russian-Azerbaijani relations had been “fully normalised” and previous difficulties were behind. 🤝 Both sides acknowledged this reality and agreed that we would work to make up for a hiatus in our relations over the past few months. We welcomed the dynamic course of intergovernmental ties <...>, as well as robust interparliamentary dialogue. <...> Foreign policy dialogue is under way at all levels. In 2025, bilateral trade volume reached nearly $5 billion. Russia remains one of Azerbaijan’s leading trade partners. <...> We also touched upon the efforts of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran to tap into the logistics potential of the western branch of the International North-South Transport Corridor. <...> Russia has consistently supported the efforts of Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve fully and comprehensively normalised relations relying on the package of trilateral agreements signed at the top level in 2020-2022. As always, we stand ready to assist Baku and Yerevan in unblocking transport routes and economic ties and resolving humanitarian issues. We briefly discussed attempts by the collective West to turn the South Caucasus into an arena of geopolitical confrontation. In this regard, we see significant potential of the “3+3” Regional Cooperation Platform. <...> We are satisfied with the outcomes of the talks. I believe they will further strengthen Russia-Azerbaijan cooperation, friendship, and partnership, and promote peace, stability, and security in the South Caucasus. *** From the Q&A session: ❓Question: How do you assess the ongoing US aggression against Iran? What are the risks to global security posed by continued hostilities? And how will the aggression and escalation affect the negotiations on settling the Ukrainian crisis? 💬 Sergey Lavrov: We actively supported the steps taken by the US and Iran when the memorandum on settlement was signed. <...> Let me once again remind you of our long-standing idea to develop a Concept for ensuring collective security in the Persian Gulf zone, but with the involvement of neighboring countries as well. Taking into account the needs and interests not only of the six states — the Arabian monarchies and Iran — which are the countries directly bordering the Persian Gulf, but also with the participation of Jordan, Iraq, the League of Arab States, and with the support of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. <...> As for the impact on the Ukrainian crisis, the Kiev regime is concerned that this situation is diverting attention away from the support that this regime wants to receive from the West on an ever-increasing scale. It is also diverting the US, whom Europe very much wants to draw into unequivocal support for the Kiev regime. #RussiaAzerbaijan

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov (Moscow, July 17, 2026) 💬 Mr Bayramov, Colleagues, I am delighted to welcome you. Since July 9 marked the Day of Diplomatic Service in Azerbaijan, we would like to complement our written message of greetings by wishing you further achievements in your hard work, as well as good health, of course. We are delighted to have this opportunity to continue our dialogue at the level of foreign ministers, which helps reinforce regular contacts between our presidents, governments, ministries and agencies, as well as parliaments. Taken together, this shows that despite problems that sometimes appear in our lives, which is unavoidable, we are moving towards unlocking the full potential of the Moscow Declaration on Allied Interaction signed on February 22, 2022. Thanks to the agreements reached at the highest level and the work of our governments and ministries this year, we have settled all issues related to the consequences of the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger flight on December 25, 2024. Several months ago, our ministries adopted the joint statement regarding that shared tragedy. Today, we will discuss the current state and outlook for our economic cooperation. Quite recently, also in April of this year, the Intergovernmental Commission held its 24th meeting. There are also positive trends and prospects in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. Of course, we will also talk about the situation in the South Caucasus. We have noticed the revival and growth of interest in the 3+3 Regional Cooperation Platform beyond the Caucasus, namely in our countries, the OSCE, the UN and, of course, the CIS. 🤝 I hope we will have fruitful talks today. #RussiaAzerbaijan

#InMemoriam #InMemoryOfDiplomats 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on July 17, 1876, Maxim Litvinov — the outstanding Soviet statesman and diplomat — was born. For many years, Maxim Litvinov held senior positions within our country’s Foreign Ministry. In 1920, he was appointed Plenipotentiary Representative to Estonia. From 1921 to 1930, he served as Deputy People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs. He took part in a number of major international conferences and meetings, including the Genoa and Hague Conferences of 1922. 💼 Maxim Litvinov headed the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs of the USSR during the challenging period from 1930 to 1939. He represented the Soviet Union in the League of Nations, where he consistently promoted the principles of international cooperation, the equality of states and respect for international law. Litvinov was meticulously working on development of relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. He was involved in the negotiations that resulted the establishment of official diplomatic ties between our countries in 1933 — a landmark event in the history of bilateral ties. Litvinov was committed to establishing a system of collective security in Europe and forming an anti-fascist coalition in Europe amid growing Nazi menace on the continent. His contemporaries noted Litvinov’s ability to combine the persistant protection of the USSR's national interests with a readiness for constructive international dialogue. His prophetic words, spoken during a session of the League of Nations in 1935, continue to resonate with the principles of Russian diplomacy today: 💬 Peace is indivisible… It is time to recognise that no country can enjoy security within its own peaceful and tranquil sphere unless peace is also guaranteed for its neighbours, both near and far. During the #GreatPatrioticWar, Maxim Litvinov served as Deputy People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the USSR. From 1941 to 1943, he was the Soviet Ambassador to the United States, while concurrently serving as the Soviet envoy to Cuba from 1942 to 1943. 🌟 He made a significant contribution to strengthening the anti-Hitler coalition — #WeWereAllies. Throughout his service in senior government and diplomatic posts, Litvinov distinguished himself as a gifted diplomat, an experienced negotiator and a firm defender of his country’s interests. His professionalism, profound knowledge of international affairs and personal contribution to the development of the Soviet diplomatic service earned him widespread recognition both in the USSR and abroad. In recognition of his many years of public service and his substantial contribution to Soviet diplomacy, Litvinov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and other state decorations of the USSR. 🕯 Maxim Litvinov passed away on 31 December 1951. He found his final rest at Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. #HistoryOfDiplomacy

Does Russia plan to raise this issue at international forums, including Geneva? 💬 Answer: Quite recently, another Russian news agency asked me a similar question. At the time, the issue was about the "nuclear ambitions" of Finland, which, like Poland, is already de facto participating in NATO's "joint nuclear missions," providing its conventional forces for support operations. Now these countries are willing to go further, gaining the ability to transport and even deploy nuclear weapons (not only American, but also French) on their territory. 🔹 In its Russophobic frenzy, Europe is moving further down the path of escalation, expanding the circle of countries involved in various "extended nuclear deterrence" schemes. The North Atlantic bloc has long ago proclaimed itself a "nuclear alliance," and Europe has not abandoned its desire to inflict a "strategic defeat" on our country. Against this backdrop, the appearance of Lithuania, Estonia, or another country whose leadership suffers from a pathological hatred of Russia on this list is hardly surprising. At the same time, sensible minds cannot help but understand that the deployment of nuclear weapons in formally non-nuclear States will not enhance their security – quite the opposite. 🔹 Of course, the Russian side regularly raises these issues at relevant multilateral forums, including the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. We point out that such irresponsible behavior by NATO members in the nuclear sphere causes irreparable damage to the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. Moreover, it significantly increases strategic risks, including the possibility of a direct clash between nuclear powers. This cannot be allowed to happen.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement and answers to media questions at a joint news conference following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Fatumata Jau (Moscow, July 16, 2026) Key talking points: • We share a positive assessment of Russia-Guinea-Bissau relations and concur that they have historically been based on friendship, mutual respect, and support that date back to the heroic quest of the people of Guinea-Bissau for independence. • We reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of areas and outlined specific steps towards this end, which I hope we will implement in the near future. • It is important that we continue joint efforts to further expand economic cooperation. To this end, we will promote business cooperation in areas such as developing mineral resources, geological prospecting, energy, and fisheries. • Russia firmly reiterated its support for any efforts to normalise relations between the Economic Community of West African States, on the one hand, and Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, on the other. We strongly believe that these four countries should fully engage in the African Union’s activities, although some elements are attempting to obstruct this work. Answers to the media questions: ❓ Question: There are just a few months to go before the third Russia-Africa Summit. At the first summit in 2019, we laid the political foundation; at the second, we discussed food and security. What major logistical and economic breakthroughs should we expect from the upcoming meeting in Moscow? 💬 Sergey Lavrov: We are not working for the sake of appearances; we are working to ensure that our relations become more stable and produce concrete results, primarily in the material sphere and humanitarian cooperation, in the best interests of the peoples and economies of African countries and the Russian Federation. The principles underlying our cooperation include mutual benefit and respect. As you pointed out, this summit symbolises a new stage in terms of moving towards concrete areas and developing specific mutually beneficial projects. ☝️We have sought to align the summit agenda as closely as possible with the decisions adopted by the African Union regarding the continent’s long-term development priorities. <...> The priority topics to be discussed at the Third Russia–Africa Summit will include ICT, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and settlements in currencies that are alternative to the major Western reserve currencies, which the West is grossly abusing.
