🧑‍🚀 #OTD, on September 5, 1929, cosmonaut No. 3, Soviet Air Force Major-General, twice the #HeroOfTheSovietUnion, and participant in the world’s first group spaceflight of two manned spacecraft, #Vostok3 and #Vostok4 — Andriyan Nikolaev — was born. #Nikolaev is the fifth person to have gone into Earth’s orbit. Both of his flights became true milestones in #SpaceExploration, expanded knowledge, and gave a powerful boost for the development of manned spaceflights. *** In the post #WW2 years, Andriyan Nikolaev graduated from the Frunze Military Aviation School. Following that, the would-be space pilot served in aviation units in the Moscow Region under the command of the legendary ace pilot Alexander Pokryshkin. In 1960, Nikolaev was sent to Star City as a cosmonaut trainee at the Cosmonaut Training Centre of the USSR Air Force. There, he was assigned to the USSR's 1st cosmonaut unit (Cosmonaut Corps). He was the backup crew member to German Titov during the Vostok-2 spacecraft. A year later, on August 11-15, 1962, Andriyan Nikolayev made his first space flight aboard the Vostok-3 spacecraft. He became the first cosmonaut in history to perform tasks inside a spacecraft in zero gravity. This experiment was conducted during the first multi-day group flight. 🎖 For his participation in the expedition of the Vostok-3 and Vostok-4 spacecraft, Major Nikolaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by an executive order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 18, 1962, along with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal. In 1963 through1968, Nikolaev helmed the cosmonaut unit. In 1965-1969, he was part of the group training under Soviet programmes involving a Lunar flyby (L1) and a crewed landing on the Moon (L3). 🚀 On June 1–19, 1970, Andriyan Nikolaev made his second space flight, this time as the commander of the #Soyuz9 spacecraft. The purpose of the expedition was to conduct scientific research and observations. Thus, the cosmonauts under his command shaved in orbit for the first time and cleaned their space dwelling. Nikolaev was awarded a second Gold Star Medal by an executive order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR as of July 3, 1970, for the successful completion of a long-duration orbital flight aboard the Soyuz-9 spacecraft and for the courage and heroism shown thereby. In 1963-1982, he was married to the world’s first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. After retiring in 1992 as Air Force Major General, Andriyan Nikolaev began systemising and promoting the knowledge about space he had acquired. He authored over 70 scientific and fiction works. 🕯 Nikolaev passed away in Cheboksary (Chuvashia) on July 3, 2004, and was buried in his native village of Shorshely. A crater on the Moon, more than 20 streets in cities and districts of Chuvashia, schools, and a children’s park in Cheboksary and Shorshely bear the name of the legendary space pilot.

🎉 Today Moscow and Muscovites celebrate #CityDay — a holiday that reflects our Motherland’s history, culture, and traditions. This year, our beloved capital turns 8️⃣7️⃣9️⃣ years old. 📜 Moscow was first mentioned in the ancient chronicles circa 1147. The Ipatiev Chronicle describes an invitation from Prince Yury Dolgoruky to his friends and allies, led by Prince Svyatoslav Olegovich of Novgorod-Seversk, to meet in Moscow: “Come unto me, brother, to Moscow. And Svyatoslav went to him with his son Oleg.” Over the past centuries, the small fortress and settlement have grown into a global metropolis and the capital of the great country. Today, Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of over 13 million covering an area of over 2'500 square kilometres. In total, more than 20 million people live in the Moscow agglomeration. It has a major role in the country’s political, cultural, and academic life and is an attraction hub for talents and ideas from across the globe. ✨ Moscow's city day is not only a tribute to history but also a look forward into the future. The capital incorporates old traditions and modern achievements, preserving its rich heritage while progressing at a dynamic pace. The Smart City is an exact reflection of our beloved capital — a leader in the digitisation of urban services. The history of Moscow is a story of courage, creation, and the unity of the entire nation. A Hero City, a symbol of resilience and spiritual strength, Moscow is rightly considered the heart of Russia. Moscow will host more than a hundred events on September 5 and 6 to celebrate its 8️⃣7️⃣9️⃣th Anniversary. 👉 See more about the celebration events Happy Birthday, dear Moscow! 🎉 #Moscow879

🎙️Comment of the Embassy of Russia in Norway to Aftenposten (September 4, 2026) ❓The Director of the Norwegian Intelligence Service, Nils Andreas Stensønes, has made the following statement to Aftenposten: «Russia seeks to weaken our ability and willingness to support Ukraine. They are attempting to do so through influence operations, cyberattacks and physical attacks. The defence industry is now particularly exposed». Could you please give a short comment regarding these statements? 💬 Answer: Until Mr Stensønes and other representatives of Western governments back up their accusations of our country with specific facts, supported by convincing evidence, we see no point in commenting on the baseless claims they regularly make. 👆🏻We are convinced that their main aim of such statements is to instil fear in their own populations in order to justify the costly militarisation and securitisation of all spheres of society. 🎙Comment by Ambassador of Russia to Canada Oleg Stepanov regarding the Federal Court of Canada decision in «B’nai Brith Canada v. Librarian and Archives Canada, 2026 FC» (Ottawa, September 4, 2026)   🇷🇺 The Embassy welcomes the decision of the Federal Court of Canada of September 1, 2026, in the case “B’nai Brith Canada v. Librarian and Archives Canada, 2026 FC”. We stand in solidarity with the efforts of progressive Canadian civil society, which for many years has been seeking the disclosure of the remaining materials of the Deschênes Commission. We consider it no less significant that, against the backdrop of the current debate, Canadian media have not forgotten the case of Yaroslav Hunka. This former member of the 14th Grenadier Division of the SS “Galicia” continues to live untroubled on Canadian soil. Let us recall that on October 1, 1946, the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg declared the SS to be a criminal organization. The “Galicia” Division, in particular, bears responsibility for the genocide of the Russian, Jewish, Ukrainian and Polish people. ❗️Russia has twice sent official requests to the Canadian Side for his extradition and criminal prosecution on charges of genocide. Even if the Canadian authorities consider Hunka’s transfer to Russia impossible, this does not exhaust the question of responsibility. The principle of aut dedere aut judicare – “extradite or prosecute” – is widely applied in international practice. ☝️However, the Canadian Side hasn’t confirmed its readiness to launch an investigation into Hunka’s actions within SS “Galicia” Division. This situation draws a clear parallel to the cases of two Nazi henchmen - Vladimir Katriuk, who died in 2015, and Helmut Oberlander, who died in 2021. Proceedings in their cases, despite the objectively established facts of the crimes committed, were prolonged for decades until their deaths from natural causes. Consequently, both individuals spent their final years in peace and comfort, avoiding criminal prosecution.

⚡️ In connection with Ukrainian statements aimed at creating direct threats to civil aviation, the competent Russian authorities are in contact with the leadership of the International Civil Aviation Organization (#ICAO) in Montreal. An urgent appeal on the matter has been sent to ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar. ❗️ The Russian Federation has issued a strong protest over Ukraine’s reckless terrorist actions, which run counter to international law. The NOTAMs issued by the Ukrainian authorities alleging that Russian airspace is unsafe have been categorically rejected. They have no legal force, distort the actual situation and mislead users of Russian airspace. We called on the ICAO Secretary General to condemn the Kiev regime’s unlawful interference in civil aviation and the direct threats it is creating, and to take targeted steps to put an end to these actions by Ukraine. ☝️ The Russian Federation remains firmly committed to ensuring the safety of civil aviation.

🇷🇺🇮🇳 On September 4, a meeting between heads of highest judicial bodies of Russia and India Igor Krasnov and Surya Kant was held on the sidelines of the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi. The sides discussed coordination of efforts on the international stage and reaffirmed the continuity of the course aimed at strengthening previously reached agreements. Igor Krasnov stated that deepening Russian-Indian cooperation based on the principles of special and privileged strategic partnership is underpinned by the warm personal and friendly relations between the leaders of our countries, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi. 🤝 During the talks, the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding was highly praised. The Russian side has already prepared and submitted to its partners for consideration a draft Programme for cooperation for the next two years. The document includes a list of mutually beneficial initiatives. #RussiaIndia #DruzhbaDosti

🎙 Remarks and answers to questions by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a lecture hosted by the Russian Znanie Society on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (Vladivostok, September 3, 2026) Key points: • We are not building walls, nor do we want to cut ourselves off from Europe. It is Europe that has cut itself off from us. It apparently believed that our past cooperation mattered so much to Russia that we would come running back and beg: “All right, forgive us, forget what happened. Let us return – just lift the sanctions”. That is not going to happen. • NATO and the EU – always need an enemy. Without an artificially created image of Russia as the enemy, people would get rid of their governments in the overwhelming majority of EU and NATO countries. • When German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that he would once again make Germany Europe’s leading military power, I was simply stunned. If this person does not understand what the word “again” means in this context, that is deeply troubling and extremely dangerous for Europe, which is once again becoming a source of ideas of national and racial superiority. • Germany has Goethe-Institut branches in Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk. Of course, they will be closed after our cultural centre was expelled from Germany. Otherwise, we would have no self-respect. • If the legislative prohibition of the Russian language in education, culture, daily life, and the media reflects European values, then Europe is welcome to revert to Nazism. The ban on the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church likewise aligns with “European values”. • The principles on which we, and everyone else, recognised Ukraine’s independence were thrown on the scrap heap long ago. Yet the West continues to defend Ukraine as a country supposedly standing up for “European values”. Meanwhile, the EU has economically shot itself in both the foot and the head, and in other parts of the body as well, by rejecting Russian energy supplies and blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines. ⚡️ Comment of the Embassy of Russia on the disinformation campaign held by the Embassy of Ukraine in Jakarta The Embassy of Ukraine in Jakarta has recently spread the comment claiming that at least eight Indonesian citizens who visited Russia allegedly joined Russian Armed Forces – is a propaganda-driven disinformation campaign. The copies of e-visas and migration card issued for tourist trips, which were published by the Ukrainian Embassy, certainly do not constitute any evidence of joining military service. At the same time, Ukraine itself is actively recruiting foreign mercenaries into the ranks of its military formations. This is due to their significant losses on the battlefield – over 700,000 killed and 1 million wounded. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has stated that, in the long term, its army should consist of 30–50% foreigners. Kiev employs deceptive methods and makes use of diplomatic missions and affiliated organizations abroad to recruit them. Tens of thousands of citizens from the other countries are currently serving in the Ukrainian army. Several thousand people died, Indonesian citizens were also among them. The Ukrainian Embassy’s allegations about Kiev’s adherence to international humanitarian law and the humane treatment of prisoners of war are extremely cynical. The majority of the prisoners of war who returned from Ukraine as part of prisoners’ exchanges reported torture, abuse, and cruel treatment while in captivity. It is obvious that the anti-Russian disinformation campaign held by the Ukrainian Embassy was timed to coincide with the participation of President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in the XI Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok and aimed at damaging the Russian-Indonesian relations.

🎙Comment by Ambassador of Russia to Canada Oleg Stepanov to The Canadian Press News Agency on recent Prime-Minister Mark Carney's remarks (Ottawa, September 3, 2026) ❗️I am compelled to correct Prime Minister Carney. Russia was, remains and will remain a member of the Group of Twenty. As for the fate of the G8 format, it ceased to exist in 2014. Let me recall how this came about. In 2014, Moscow held the presidency of the group. Following Crimea’s reunification with Russia, the other seven members decided, for political reasons, to withdraw from the G8 format. In other words, they excluded themselves. ☝️The G8 no longer exists. And that is perhaps for the best. We have no interest in reviving it. In contemporary international affairs, it is new-type formats such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, as well as the aforementioned Group of Twenty, that command the greatest authority. The G7, by contrast, has long since become a grouping that exists on paper only, perpetuated merely for its own sake. Whatever prestige it may once have enjoyed no longer carries any weight in contemporary international relations. Such is the reality.

⚡️ On September 3, Ambassador of Norway to Moscow Heidi Olufsen was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Ambassador was issued a strong protest over the Norwegian authorities’ September 2 arrest of the Russian research vessel Professor Molchanov, which was in the port of the Russian settlement of Barentsburg on the Spitsbergen (Svalbard) archipelago. The vessel, arrested at Ukraine’s request, belongs to the Northern Directorate for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Roshydromet. It was making a scheduled voyage from Murmansk to the Russian settlement of Barentsburg, transporting, among others, employees of the Arktikugol Trust and scientists. The Professor Molchanov also delivers supplies essential for the functioning of the Russian settlements of Barentsburg and Pyramiden. Against the backdrop of Norway’s restrictive measures against Russia on Spitsbergen, introduced in violation of international law, Russian organisations and citizens operating on the archipelago have effectively been placed under blockade. ❗️ Such discrimination against Russians constitutes a direct violation by Norway of the 1920 Svalbard Treaty. The Ambassador was told that the Russian Side categorically rejects not only the arrest of the Professor Molchanov, but also Norway’s recently intensified actions aimed at restricting Russia’s lawful presence on the archipelago. Moscow demands that Oslo unconditionally comply with international law, including both the provisions and the spirit of the Svalbard Treaty. ☝️ The Russian Foreign Ministry and the relevant Russian authorities will seek the lifting of the vessel’s arrest. The Russian Foreign Ministry, the Embassy of Russia in Norway and the Russian Consulate General in Barentsburg remain in close contact with representatives of Russian organisations, as well as with the Norwegian authorities. The vessel’s crew and passengers are receiving the necessary consular, legal and other assistance.

🇷🇺🇿🇦 Consulate General of Russia in Cape Town: ✍🏻 Article by R.Golubovskiy, the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, published in the Cape Times (media holding Independent Media), on the topic of partnership between the EAEU and the SACU. "Bridging Eurasia and Southern Africa: Strategic Prospects for EAEU-SACU Relations" Key points: - Against the backdrop of the fragmentation of the global economy and the growing role of regional integration associations, cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) is of practical interest as one of the avenues for strengthening economic ties between Eurasia and Southern Africa. - The existence of a similar customs framework creates favourable conditions for the gradual establishment of an institutional dialogue between the EAEU and SACU. - The fact that both associations face comparable structural challenges including the need to diversify their economies, develop infrastructure, enhance competitiveness and adapt to changes in global trade – also creates potential for cooperation. 👉🏻 Read in full in English: PressReader Telegraph

Embassy comment on the British side’s démarche   💬 On 3 September, Chargé d’Affaires Vasily Tsyganov was invited to the Foreign Office, where he received a protest alleging Russia’s involvement in the drone incident at Leipzig Airport. These baseless and absurd accusations, framed in a surprisingly familiar British style, were categorically rejected. No convincing evidence was presented to support the anti-Russian version of events. The Russian side pointed out that such a coordinated provocation, aimed at fuelling tension in Europe, serves only the interests of Kiev and its sponsors, who are pushing for the conflict to continue. It is reckless and dangerous. ☝️ It was stressed that Russia does not seek confrontation with the United Kingdom or other European states. However, any escalatory steps on their part will meet an appropriate and carefully calibrated response.

Government of the Russian Federation: 🇷🇺🇨🇳 On September 3, Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang held a meeting of the Russia-China Intergovernmental Commission on Investment Cooperation on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum. In the first half of 2026, Russia-China trade grew by 22% and exceeded $135 billion. 💬 Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov: Expanding investment cooperation helps lay a solid foundation for further sustainable growth in trade. Creating comfortable and predictable conditions for the continued expansion of investment cooperation remains our priority. Joint Russia-China initiatives supported by the Commission include around 90 projects worth approximately $240 billion. More than half are already at the implementation stage. Joint projects are being carried out in metallurgy, chemicals and forestry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, transport, trade and logistics. ☝️ The Commission’s key areas of work in the near term include: • continuous monitoring and targeted support for projects; • raising business awareness of investment opportunities; • developing new mechanisms and instruments to attract financing for investment projects. #RussiaChina

🎙 Address by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the Plenary Session of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (Vladivostok, Russky Island, September 3, 2026) The event was also attended by President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister of Mongolia Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Vice President of Myanmar U Nyo Saw, and Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang. Key points: • Russia is an active participant in investment and trade cooperation in the Asia-Pacific. We engage with our partners and the region’s leading integration associations on an equal footing. • Our strategic objective is to ensure that the Far East remains a region of cooperation and dynamic transformation in the economy and infrastructure, technological development, workforce training and, of course, the social sphere. • Over the past 11 years, around 25 trillion rubles in capital investment has been attracted to Russia’s Far Eastern regions. As a result, the Far East’s gross regional product has more than tripled over this period – a very strong pace of growth. • The Far East’s key macroeconomic indicators are growing faster than the national average. This is precisely what we sought to achieve when we declared the region’s development a strategic priority for Russia throughout the 21st century. • It is important to continue creating convenient and predictable conditions for investors, taking into account the needs of businesses and the regions while proceeding from Russia’s national interests. • For investors in such projects, and for those launching new enterprises in the Far East and the Arctic, it is important to ensure stable demand for their products. Offset contracts, which are being developed with the support of State Development Corporation VEB.RF, should be used for this purpose as well. • In today’s challenging global environment, amid risks to international shipping and trade, the Northern Sea Route is intended to provide greater flexibility and security for international deliveries, open up new opportunities for transit and coastal shipping, and ensure uninterrupted supplies to Arctic regions. • Our goal is to make navigation along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor year-round. To achieve this, we are building icebreakers and ice-class vessels, expanding our service and rescue fleet and satellite constellation, and strengthening port infrastructure. • We expect that by the end of this decade, freight traffic along the Trans-Arctic Corridor will reach at least 70 million tonnes per year – at least double the current level. • To expand international capital participation in our Far Eastern and Arctic projects, we need to make use of the potential of the Eastern Exchange. As I have already said, we plan to establish a modern financial centre on its basis. • We need to develop new cross-border routes with Asia-Pacific, #BRICS and #EAEU countries. We are open to cooperation with all our partners in this area. Full transcript

This is our second meeting this year, and I am very pleased about that. Our personal relations reflect the genuinely strategic nature of ties between our countries. I would like to thank you for making the trip to Vladivostok and taking part in the Eastern Economic Forum as its guest of honour. 🤝 Indonesia is one of Russia’s key partners in Southeast Asia. Our cooperation covers agriculture, shipbuilding, information technology and energy, including nuclear power. We have also signed a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Indonesia. ☝️ Jakarta is also our reliable, longstanding friend within #ASEAN.
