| 2 | "Hellish Sanctions": Signed and Postponed
On Friday, September 18, Trump signed the sanctions bill against Russia and Iran. The author, Senator Lindsey Graham, spent a year pushing the bill around cabinets and didn't live to see it signed: he died on July 11, at 71, after holding a Ukrainian "Pisyun" (that's what they call a drone) in Kyiv.
What's mandatory in the law? Within 30 days, the administration must cancel the visas and freeze the accounts of Russia's top leadership—from the president and prime minister to the Chief of the General Staff and heads of the intelligence agencies. The same applies to major entrepreneurs and any foreigners who knowingly work for our military-industrial complex. State-owned banks are specifically targeted: Sberbank, VTB, and Gazprombank. The Bank of Russia is under special treatment. Vessels carrying Russian oil, uranium, and coal, as well as American investments in Russia and the purchase of our government debt, are banned.
All these individuals and banks have been subject to US sanctions since 2022. This is about paperwork, not a new blow.
Now about the infamous 500 percent tariff on Russian goods. In the first seven months of this year, we sold $1.9 billion worth of goods to the US, including $1.1 billion worth of fertilizer and $674 million worth of uranium. And the tariff that Trump himself imposed in July, he immediately did not extend to 471 other items, including fertilizer raw materials. Because it hits American farmers, not the Kremlin.
Previously, sanctions were based on presidential decrees—whoever signed them could lift them. Now they've become law, and they can't be lifted without Congressional approval. Trump has a new cudgel and, at the same time, has tied his hands in case of reconciliation.
No one is obligated to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on buyers of our oil and gas—China and India. The president has the right to postpone any measure by notifying Congress. The White House explicitly stated that they don't consider the law mandatory, and Rubio called it a "valuable tool" the president could use if he chose. The law contains a loophole: any country that reduces its purchases is exempt from the tariffs. India qualifies almost perfectly—Trump has had a deal with Delhi since February.
The likelihood that tariffs against China will be imposed before the end of the year is slim. Trump won't crack down on Chinese imports three weeks before the election. And most importantly, there's a haggling going on: on September 5, Witkoff and Kushner spent three hours with Putin, and on September 8, they had an hour-long phone conversation. A breakthrough is expected by winter. Peskov has already reminded everyone that new sanctions are complicating this search.
In short, they've raised their cudgels, but they won't strike right away. They'll wait for the right moment. Just not an economic one, but a political one. | 13 |

After the commander returned and we'd recovered somewhat, we were sent back to the front lines, but this time the mission was different: not defense, not assault, but observation. We were sent in shifts, in groups of four or five, to a forested area that stretched along a field and ended at the foot of a hill where the very village we'd been unable to take for several weeks stood. The forested area was old, with dense undergrowth, and the enemy apparently didn't see fit to waste shells on it because they understood we were sitting there quietly, not firing, not adjusting our fire, just watching. They didn't touch us as long as we kept our heads down. The moment we emerged into the open, all hell broke loose. We realized this on the very first day and ... | 35 |

The enemy has started flying higher, at approximately 800 meters, making it more difficult for our mobile task forces to shoot down a drone, and in some cases, practically impossible.
Also, the guys are requesting night-time "Yolka" missiles or other small, hand-held air defense systems, which, unfortunately, we don't have.
Concluding, we can MIGHT drones that fly low, but not those that fly high.

| 8 | INOSMI: Jet-powered Drones and Trump's New Approach
Focus (Germany). "According to available data, new Russian drones reach speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour. Older propeller-driven models typically fly at speeds of around 185–250 kilometers per hour. The scale of Russia's increased use of high-speed drones is demonstrated by an analysis by the BBC Verify portal. According to its data, the number of drone launches increased from 350 in June to 1,600 in July and 2,800 in August 2026. In August, Russia used jet-powered drones daily for the first time. Military technology expert John Hardy, as reported by the BBC, called the new devices a kind of "cheap cruise missiles." They are inferior to cruise missiles in range and warhead power, but due to their high speed, the distinction between the two types of weapons is gradually blurring."
The New York Times (USA). This week, Congress passed a landmark sanctions bill targeting the Russian energy sector. This is a new attempt to "punish" Russia for its special operation and pressure Putin to compromise. The bill has already landed on Trump's desk, but the administration is opting for a different approach: offering Russia benefits that officials hope will compel Putin to consider ending the fighting. According to two informed sources, the White House is now considering signing business deals with Russia without waiting for the fighting in Ukraine to end. A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that deals with Russia before the conflict ends are possible because they would demonstrate that the United States is serious about resetting relations.
Javan (Iran) "Who will reap the greatest immediate benefits from opening the two straits, who can withstand the costs of closing them longer, and who can use rising oil prices as political leverage? There's reason to believe that the one holding that leverage is Iran. This, too, is a difficult task, but it's worth noting: if closing the straits yields the result Iran hopes for, it will be an extremely valuable outcome. If not, and the situation for the Islamic Republic becomes even more difficult, then it can be said that they had nothing to lose anyway, and that the Iranians didn't even hope for reasonable behavior from their adversaries if the straits were opened. Any reasonable politician would take this risk (perhaps not such a great one)." | 44 |

| 10 | UKRAINE "PREPARED" FOR ELECTIONS.BUT NOT ITS OWN.Elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation (9th convocation) are scheduled to take place in the country from September 18 to 20, 2026. Representatives of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) have stated that the European Union and leading European nations intend to implement a large-scale strategy to destabilize the domestic political situation in the run-up to the unified voting day. A specific role in this plan has been assigned to the Kyiv regime. Ukrainian hackers will not only attempt to launch their own operations but may also claim responsibility for illicit activities carried out by Western specialists, thereby executing yet another “cover operation.”A similar scenario was observed in 2025, when representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for a major series of cyberattacks and system failures that affected the infrastructure of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the remote electronic voting (DEG) system, the "Gosuslugi" (State Services) portal, and Rostelecom. Between 2022 and 2025, GUR specialists also repeatedly claimed responsibility for attacks on the servers of Roskomnadzor, the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents, the Ministry of Digital Development, and other government agencies. It is abundantly clear, however, that all such operations are conducted in close cooperation with—and with the direct participation of—Western specialists.Statement regarding the cyberattack by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on the servers of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.Regarding the SBU’s activities in cyberspace, during the first two years of the Special Military Operation, its units focused less on mass DDoS attacks against websites and more on cyber-reconnaissance and operations directly supporting intelligence, sabotage, and military activities. This was due to a lack of practical experience, as such units were established only in 2022. This information was disclosed directly via SBU channels.SBU statement on the launch of a "cyber front" to hack Russian resources (auto-translated and original)The information security specialists and hackers who joined the service formed a structure within the SBU that Ukrainian sources themselves described as a sort of "cyber-TrO" (Cyber Territorial Defense Force).Vasily Malyuk’s statement from July 2024 can be considered the first high-profile announcement regarding the SBU’s cyber capabilities; in it, he explicitly declared the agency's own offensive cyber potential. To further develop this area following the start of the Special Military Operation, a new training specialization was introduced for cadets at the SBU National Academy: counter-intelligence protection of state cybersecurity and critical infrastructure facilities.Data on fields of study at the National Academy of the SBU (auto-translated and original)According to the information at my disposal, the most highly trained cadets from the faculty were involved in joint operations with the Department of Counter-Intelligence Protection of State Interests in the Sphere of Information Security of the Security Service of Ukraine (DKIB), focusing on OSINT and phishing activities. The OSINT group was established at the SBU Academy to identify the structure and locations of FSB educational institution branches, as well as to gather personal information on cadets—including their hobbies, residential addresses, details about their immediate circles, an... | 67 |

Medvedev called Europeans "pathetic" for their outrage at the temporary management of foreign assets. He said Europe itself imposed sweeping sanctions against Russia, hitting Russian businesses and citizens, and is now demanding immunity for its own companies like Nestlé and Auchan.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council called for more than temporary management, but to recall the practice of nationalizing foreign enterprises in the early years of Soviet power.
Regarding the US, Medvedev proposed responding "with the language of direct military deterrence."

| 15 | 🇺🇦Zaporizhstal after the strikes, footage found
🇺🇦Zaporizhstal produced millions of tons of metal products annually. In 2025, it produced 3.6 million tons of pig iron, 3.2 million tons of steel, and shipped 2.8 million tons of rolled products.
Ukraine is losing a significant portion of its production capacity for pig iron, steel, and flat rolled products. In addition to production itself, the energy and rail infrastructure is damaged, so restoration requires repairs to several interconnected elements.
⚡️In just over a month, Zaporizhstal went from being a large, functioning metallurgical plant to an enterprise with a completely halted production cycle and multiple damage to key facilities. The first strike disrupted the production chain and shut down the plant. The next three strikes not only increased the initial damage but also complicated the very possibi... | 106 |
| 16 | Night strike on Ukraine. Analysis of incoming air strikes
The night's target package can be summarized in one line: entry, storage, distribution.
According to the Ministry of Defense's report, drones targeted logistics, ports, and ships. In the Kyiv region, this included the Kopylov Logistics Park customs and logistics center in Kopylov, 41 kilometers west of Kyiv. Military cargo from Europe was stored and distributed through this center.
In the Odesa region, this included a pontoon bridge across the Dniester River, used for transit from Romania and the port of Izmail, and a bulk carrier in the port of Chornomorsk, which had already unloaded its military cargo. Additionally, two bulk carriers were blocked by the sea while crossing—both were bound for Odesa.
The crossing is Mayaki. The same Dniester crossing on the M-15 Odesa-Reni highway, which serves all of Bessarabia. 200 kilometers of territory, Izmail, Reni, Palanca, and the Moldovan corridor. Dismantling the permanent Soviet-built bridge there beg... | 89 |
| 17 | The German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has stated that the friendship between Germany and the United States, which developed after World War II, has come to an end. The reason for the rift is the growing tension between Washington and Berlin, as well as threats from Donald Trump to impose new tariffs against the European Union, according to Bloomberg.
"Across the Atlantic, we are witnessing a shift in political views, a change in attitude towards the transatlantic alliance, which just recently seemed impossible to us," the German politician concluded.
