LEANING TOWER OF PISA Did you know there's a tower in Italy that's famous for not standing straight? Welcome to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. But why does it lean? Well, it all started back in the 12th century when construction began. Due to the soft ground beneath, the tower started leaning during the construction itself. But here's the shocker. It wasn't until 1990 that engineers stabilized the tower to prevent it from toppling over completely. Standing at 183 feet tall, this marble marvel leans at an angle of 3.97°. That's about 15 feet off the perpendicular. Despite its lean, the tower has stood the test of time, surviving earthquakes and wars.
