🏢 PUNCHING SHEAR — A Critical Flat-Slab Failure Mode ⚠️ In flat slabs, concentrated column reactions can create very high shear stresses around the column. If the connection is inadequately designed or detailed, a punching-shear failure can develop around the column. ✅ Adequate slab/drop thickness. ✅ Punching-shear reinforcement where required. ✅ Correct column–slab detailing. ✅ Proper structural design & QA/QC inspection. Never assume a flat slab is safe just because the concrete looks perfect. @eagleng

📌This image shows how a septic drain field / leach field works — a common system for treating household wastewater in areas without city sewage. Here's the breakdown from back to front: 1. Septic Tank The large concrete box at the far end. All wastewater from the house flows into this tank. Inside, solids sink to the bottom and oils float to the top, while the liquid in the middle (called effluent) flows out. 2. Distribution Box (D-Box) The smaller concrete box connected to the septic tank. Its job is to evenly divide the liquid effluent coming from the septic tank into the three drain pipes. 3. Perforated Drain Pipe The three long white pipes with holes along the sides. The effluent flows through them and slowly leaks out through the small holes. You can even see water trickling out at the ends of the pipes in the photo. 4. Crushed Rock / Gravel The entire trench is filled with gravel. This does two important things: It holds the pipes in place and allows the water to spread out evenly. It acts as a filter before the water seeps into the soil underneath, where natural bacteria in the soil provide final treatment and clean the water. So in short: Wastewater -> Settled in Septic Tank -> Evenly divided in Distribution Box -> Slowly released through Perforated Pipes -> Filtered by Gravel and soil before returning to the groundwater. @eagleng
