#albumbluesrock Vol.22/2026 Today we continue reviewing anniversary editions from 30 years ago. We'll reminisce about the youthful '80s and listen to newly minted releases. We'll look back at the COVID-19 2020 and recall the now distant guitar year of 2014. A very busy agenda is expected.
Foreigner - 4 (1981) This is the iconic fourth studio album by the British-American hard rock band Foreigner, released on July 3, 1981, by Atlantic Records. The album became the band's most commercially successful release, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and holding the top spot for 10 weeks. In the US, the album has been certified six-times platinum. More fact and music on our website. Best Cuts on Blues Rock Charts tg app soon.

| 3 | #bluesrock 2002. Funk and blues-rock were closely linked in 2002, thanks to their shared roots in African-American music and the major "retro" movement. Early rock pioneers directly borrowed the blues scale and syncopated rhythms. By 2002, bands were naturally blending these percussive funk rhythms with the hard, guitar-driven blues. | 4 | #bluesrock 2016 Vol.5 (WBR). Today we have our fifth review of blues rock from the past decade, and it's dedicated to the women of blues rock. 2016 was a pivotal and significant period for women in blues rock, marked by a powerful combination of rising young virtuoso guitarists and genre veterans pushing the boundaries.
What made 2016 unique for women in blues-rock was the fundamental shift in power, sound, and visibility. It was the year when female artists ceased to be treated as a "subgenre" or a curiosity, and instead became dominant innovators, driving the entire blues-rock movement forward. The sound of female-fronted blues-rock in 2016 became significantly heavier. Influenced by 1970s stadium rock, female artists infused traditional blues structures with a powerful dose of distortion, aggressive riffs, and dark rhythm sections. In 2016, women abandoned the traditional 12-bar blues formula to create incredibly ambitious, boundary-pushing records.

| 9 | Today we brought you the second roundup of slow-burning '90s blues-rock. 185 tracks for 22 hours of your precious time. It will be on the air through November of this year. It’s most enjoyable when streamed in the background.
The slow-burning blues-rock of the ’90s is deep, low-key, and deeply emotional music, blending heavy rock with the melancholy of classic blues. This decade saw the genre shed the excessive gloss of the ’80s. Musicians returned to a raw, honest, and dense sound, where every note of the electric guitar literally “cries” and lingers as long as possible. Below is a detailed description of how this genre evolved, who its leading figures were, and what the secret behind this sound is.
In the 1990s, drawn-out blues-rock evolved in several directions—from classic ballads to raw and heavy Southern rock.
Gary Moore: An Irish guitarist who released the cult classic album *Still Got the Blues* in 1990. It was his style that became the benchmark for “sustained” playing: Moore could hold a single note on his guitar and make it ring out for more than ten seconds, conveying an incredible intensity of emotion.
Stevie Ray Vaughan: Tragically killed in early 1990, this Texan genius managed to set the tone for the entire decade. His slow compositions (such as “Texas Flood” or “Riviera Paradise”) demonstrated how to play in a drawn-out style while remaining powerful and technically proficient.
Gov't Mule: A band formed by members of the famous Allman Brothers Band. They blended slow, drawn-out blues with heavy rock and psychedelia. Their music was slow, dark, and very dense.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Jonny Lang: Young guitarists who, in the second half of the ’90s, revived the trend for classic, “mature” blues-rock, infusing it with fresh energy.
The drawn-out blues-rock of the ’90s is easily recognizable by several key details: “Wailing” guitar: The electric guitar is the lead voice here. Musicians used special effects (such as heavy overdrive) to make the sound linger long and smoothly. Slow tempo: The songs take their time. The drums and bass create a laid-back yet very heavy and groovy rhythm. Deep vocals: Singers often perform songs with a hoarse, strained, and passionate voice, just as the old blues masters did a hundred years ago. In the 1990s, the grunge style emerged in Seattle (bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam). Grunge was also heavy, slow, and melancholic. This had a major influence on the blues-rock of that era. The music became darker, grittier, and more authentic. The flashy hairstyles and shiny suits of the ’80s disappeared; musicians took the stage in simple jeans and flannel shirts, focusing entirely on emotion and sound. | 2 151 |

| 14 | #bluesrock 2012 was a watershed year for blues rock, characterized by genre-bending crossover albums and high-profile releases from both traditional icons and standout artists. It was a powerful year of neo-blues rock. Some of the defining events of 2012 included Gary Clark Jr.'s breakthrough. He released his major label debut Blak and Blu, which combined traditional blues with hip-hop, neo-soul and rock. This made him a generational talent, able to bridge the gap between old school blues and modern genres. Jack White released his critically acclaimed debut solo album, Blunderbuss, which dominated the blues rock charts with its 1960s soul and garage blues vibe. The Alabama Shakes exploded onto the scene with their debut album Boys & Girls, giving it a deep, soulful twist on Southern rock in a traditional blues-rock format. The genre has produced highly anticipated recordings by well-known artists, including ZZ Top's La Futura and Joe Bonamassa's Driving Towards the Daylight, which retain the traditional guitar virtuoso sound.
Among the most successful and iconic tracks that topped the charts, received Grammy awards and played on radio around the world in 2012 were: The Black Keys - “Lonely Boy”. It was the main commercial engine of blues rock in 2012. The song won two Grammy Awards (including Best Rock Song) and topped the Billboard rock charts. Alabama Shakes - "Hold On". It was the breakthrough of the year. The single received a Grammy nomination and was named the best song of 2012 by Rolling Stone magazine, cementing the group's status as platinum stars. The Black Keys - "Little Black Submarines". It was a platinum hit, reaching top 2 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart. Became a cult classic due to its dramatic transition from acoustic to stadium guitar solo. Jack White - "Sixteen Saltines". It is the lead single from the album Blunderbuss, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The song actively stormed the alternative charts around the world. Gary Clark Jr. - "Bright Lights". It was this track that made Gary a superstar. His performances on major TV shows and festivals led Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones to recognize him as the top young guitarist on the planet. Joe Bonamassa - "Driving Towards the Daylight". The album of the same name peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Albums and entered the top 30 on the overall chart. This track became the main radio hit in Bonamassa's career. The Black Keys - "Gold on the Ceiling". This would be another stadium giant of 2012. The song went double platinum and was featured in commercials, films and video games, popularizing the dirty blues riff. Jack White - "Freedom at 21". The track earned Jack White a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song and featured a crazy, experimental guitar solo featuring phase effects. ZZ Top - "I Gotsta Get Paid", the lead single from La Futura, which became their most successful release in 20 years, debuting in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. The Heavy - "What Makes A Good Man?" This is a British indie blues hit that became a global phenomenon thanks to mass pop culture (it was heard in the trailer for the game Borderlands 2 and many TV series).
2012 was in our focus on 50 Shades of Blues Rock back in 2022 (450 Top Hits) in 2 huge installments (a kinda 0 years anniversary) and in late 2024 (+150 more Songs).
Today we have 80 tracks from 2012 that have been slightly forgotten. This is the first of two planned compilations. The Top 20 will be available soon on the Blues Rock Charts Telegram channel.
