The Trump administration has openly declared a return to American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere under what it calls the Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. This is about securing our borders, crushing the cartels and narco-terror networks, pushing hostile foreign influence out of our hemisphere, protecting strategic resources, controlling critical trade routes and reestablishing the United States as the dominant power in its own backyard. Now look at Venezuela. Maduro is gone. President Trump just announced a massive oil agreement involving 17 Venezuelan oil fields with roughly 65 billion barrels of proven reserves. At the same time, the United States is putting enormous economic and military pressure on Iran while securing passage through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important energy chokepoints on Earth. Energy is power. Oil is power. Shipping lanes are power. Whoever controls strategic resources and access holds the leverage. But there is another enormous piece of this that most Americans probably don't even know happened. On August 26, President Trump declared a national emergency to secure America's bulk-power system. His order warns that foreign actors are increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the electric grid, including the danger of foreign-made equipment containing digital backdoors. The order also specifically says the explosion of AI, data centers, advanced manufacturing and defense production has made abundant, reliable American electricity even more critical to national security. Now connect that to what just happened on X. The platform says it uncovered a suspected Chinese bot farm of roughly 200,000 accounts. Within that network, 200 accounts were specifically posting in ways X says could manipulate the American debate over AI, energy and data centers. OpenAI had already uncovered a likely China-origin influence operation using AI to pose as Americans and push anti-data-center messaging. Meanwhile, Trump has pushed the major AI and tech companies into what the White House calls the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, telling them to "build, bring or buy" the power their data centers need and pay for the infrastructure themselves instead of passing those costs on to American families. This isn't just about computers. The country that dominates artificial intelligence, computing power and the energy required to run it will have enormous economic and strategic power in the decades ahead. China understands that.
