✅ Miners are scrapping an estimated $1.5B of hardware to move into AI US public miners are retiring old rigs to repurpose their infrastructure for AI. The numbers, per TheEnergyMag: • Hashrate cut: 75 EH/s. At $20 per TH/s, that's about $1.5B of equipment (an estimate; buildings, power, cooling and installation not included) • Reported write-downs: about $1.1B in H1 2026 across 12 large public miners. IREN and Core Scientific account for almost 89% • Cipher: moved a new mining cluster to AI almost at once and wrote off $96M of equipment that had earned only $58M The problem: mining income is already falling, and AI hasn't paid off yet. TeraWulf earned $53M from AI but paid $131M in debt interest. Banks are stricter on AI-sector loans, so new money is harder and pricier to get. This follows a big build-out. In 2024–2025, miners spent at least $5B on equipment, and Bitcoin network hashrate hit a record above 1,400 EH/s in autumn 2025. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

🇰🇿 Kazakhstan bets on flare gas for crypto mining Kazakhstan wants to rebuild its mining industry around flare gas from oil fields. What's happening: • In July, President Tokayev signed a decree to stimulate and develop the digital asset industry. It calls for a bill that gives companies a mechanism to use gas for mining • Miners' interest in flare gas has risen since • According to the Ministry of Energy, up to 60 oil fields produce flare gas • The head of the Blockchain and Digital Mining Association estimates that the country's total flared gas could be turned into 1.2–1.3 TWh of power Why both sides like it: • Miners buy gas at lower prices and can lock in power prices for years instead of relying on grid tariffs that can fluctuate • Oil companies earn from selling the gas and avoid disposal fees that can reach millions Why now: Kazakhstan had a mining boom in 2021, but it strained the country's aging power grid. The government cracked down and introduced an auction system for power, which pushed most miners out. A legal framework for the new approach is now in development. The Vice Minister of AI and Digital Development calls it "highly beneficial" for the country. Power is the foundation of mining economics. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

📈 Quantum Blockchain Technologies advances its Bitcoin mining R&D Quantum Blockchain Technologies (LSE: QBT) reported updates on its Bitcoin mining technology development for H1 2026: → Method C (its AI-based Oracle technology) is moving toward live testing using manufacturer-supported data, after early results showed improved performance versus conventional mining methods. → A new Method B variant based on chaos mathematics was introduced, alongside renewed research into potential quantum computing applications for SHA-256. → The company received a US Notice of Allowance for its ASIC UltraBoost technology, with European patent protection still in progress — part of a broader IP strategy aimed at licensing deals with semiconductor and mining industry partners. → A new subsidiary, BlocKeeper Plc, was established to run virtual Bitcoin mining operations via hash rate contracts rather than owned infrastructure. → On the financial side, the company completed equity placings and extended bond maturities, narrowing its comprehensive loss to €1.1M for the period. Great to see continued R&D momentum across the industry — from AI-driven mining optimization to new patent milestones. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

🇺🇸Failure of Crypto Clarity Act Cloture Vote Not a Surprise The outcome of yesterday’s Clarity Act cloture vote was not unexpected. There was little bipartisan support leading up to it. Late Sunday night, Republican Senators released the final version of H.R. 3633, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which included additional ethics concessions from the White House and limitations related to BRCA as a nod to law enforcement. On Monday morning, industry executives were hopeful and momentum grew. At the Solana Policy Institute Summit in Washington DC that afternoon, anticipation was high. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), who is retiring in a few months, said Democrats had not been negotiating in good faith: “It’s time to vote now. This is as good as it’s going to get… This is the right product at the right time.” By evening, reports emerged that Senate Democrats would introduce their own version of the bill. With the procedural vote less than 24 hours away, the path to 60 votes looked weak — though there were signs that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) was urging fellow Democrats to support it. On the morning of the Tuesday vote, Republicans largely dismissed the Democratic counteroffer. The result was as expected, with a few twists: all Democrats (including Gillibrand) voted against the measure, and three Republicans also voted no. Shortly before the vote closed, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) changed his “yes” vote to enter a motion to reconsider. This leaves open the possibility of another cloture vote after the midterms. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

Trump Compares AI Data Centers to Oil Boom — Nvidia CEO Agrees At the All-In Summit, President Trump called data centers “the oil of the next 20–25 years,” saying they are making communities wealthy. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang agreed, noting that $400 billion in venture funding has flowed into AI companies in the past six months, driving huge demand for computing power and data centers. But the buildout is creating a backlash. One large AI data center can use as much electricity as 100,000 homes. By 2028, data centers could account for up to 12% of U.S. electricity use. Last year saw over $60 billion in rate increases, and electricity prices rose 11.5% in 2025 as utilities passed costs onto consumers. Data centers create few permanent jobs (often under 150, sometimes just 25) after construction. Tax breaks reduce net economic benefits, while local governments still pay for water and grid upgrades. Huang calls AI a “new industrial revolution” that needs chips, manufacturing, power, and infrastructure. This expands opportunities beyond Nvidia to power companies (Vistra, Constellation), equipment makers (GE Vernova, Eaton), and data-center REITs (Digital Realty, Equinix). The boom also brings higher electricity and water use, environmental costs, lawsuits over pollution and noise, and new facilities often located near lower-income communities. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

Investments in AI data centers will reach $31.6 trillion by 2050 PwC estimates that global investments in data centers from 2026 to 2050 will total $31.6 trillion under the base scenario. With faster AI adoption, the figure could rise to nearly $50 trillion. In a slower-growth scenario, it could drop to $22 trillion. In scale, this investment cycle will surpass previous major infrastructure waves, including the construction of railroads and the rollout of the internet. Capital will come from cloud providers, data center operators, AI model developers, corporations, and governments. A key detail: the bulk of the money will go not into buildings, but into the equipment inside the data centers — servers, storage systems, networking gear, and AI accelerators. The share of this equipment in capital expenditures is projected to grow from 70% in 2026 to 93% by 2050. 🗺Investment by region: — North and South America — $16.5 trillion (of which $15.1 trillion is the U.S.) — Asia-Pacific — $8.2 trillion — Europe — $5.6 trillion — Middle East — $1.1 trillion — Africa — $255 billion Annual investments are expected to rise from $800 billion in 2026 to $1.1 trillion in 2030 and $1.8 trillion by 2050. China and India will be the main demand drivers in the Asia-Pacific region. An important nuance: this cycle won’t end after the initial construction. Servers and equipment will need to be replaced every 4–6 years, so spending will continue for decades. Among the risks are local community pushback (in the U.S., at least 75 projects worth $130 billion were blocked or delayed in the first quarter of 2026 alone) and potential tighter export restrictions on chips, which could reduce the forecast by $6 trillion — down to $25.5 trillion. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers

💵 BITCOIN BREAKS ABOVE $80,000 Bitcoin surged past $80,000 on Tuesday, rising over 2% to $80,501. The move extends last week’s sharp rally, when BTC gained more than 20% in three days — its strongest three-day performance since 2023. A short squeeze played a role, liquidating over $4 billion in bearish positions. Key factors behind the rise: ➖Strong inflows into U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs ($1.92 billion last week — the largest weekly total since October) ➖Improved risk appetite ➖U.S. Treasury’s plan to increase purchases of longer-dated bonds ➖Growing concerns over inflation and government debt Fundstrat suggested the rally could prove “more durable than a tactical bounce,” pointing to ETF inflows, higher trading activity, and increased stablecoin creation. Options market activity also shows investors taking longer-term positions. Notably, the rally occurred without fresh buying from Strategy, the largest corporate bitcoin holder, which has not purchased BTC for two weeks. Questions remain about how long the breakout can hold. Bitcoin has been in a prolonged downturn since October, and similar past surges have sometimes faded. ― Subscribe 🏆 @uminers
