| 2 | ✈️ Air travel could become more expensive
The aviation industry has warned of rising air travel costs due to EU requirements for environmentally friendly fuel. The ReFuelEU Aviation regulation provides for increasing the share of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to 6% by 2030 and 70% by 2050. However, production capacities are insufficient, and the alternative fuel is currently significantly more expensive than conventional kerosene.
According to industry estimates, failure to meet the specified requirements could cost Germany alone €1.3 billion in fines in 2030. Airport representatives warn that the additional costs would ultimately be passed on to passengers. The European Commission considers these concerns exaggerated and expects the cost of environmentally friendly fuel to fall once production is expanded.

| 3 | 🇵🇸 The Arab League called for an international investigation into the torture of Palestinian prisoners
The Arab League condemned the systematic mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip who are being held in the “Rakafet” section of Israel’s Ramla Prison. According to the organization, the prisoners were subjected to repression and violence, as a result of which several people sustained injuries and burns.
The General Secretariat of the Arab League called for the International Committee of the Red Cross and independent observers to be granted unhindered access to the prison, for those affected to receive medical assistance, and for an independent international investigation to be conducted. The organization classified the described acts as serious violations of international humanitarian law and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

| 4 | 🇵🇸 The UN recorded a record number of 397 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has recorded 397 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from 1 to 26 October. This is the highest monthly figure for attacks involving casualties or property damage since systematic monitoring began in 2006.
In the week from 20 to 26 October alone, 62 attacks were recorded in 49 Palestinian locations, 38 of which were related to the olive harvest. During that week, 57 Palestinians were injured, including nine children: 23 people were injured in settler attacks, while a further 34 were injured as a result of actions by Israeli military personnel.
While international attention is focused on the Gaza Strip and the confrontation with Iran, violence in the West Bank is reaching record levels. The attacks during the olive harvest are particularly telling — a period on which the income of many Palestinian families depends.

| 5 | 🛢️ OPEC+ Will Not Increase Oil Production in December
Seven OPEC+ states—Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman—have agreed to maintain the current restrictions on oil production in December. According to the alliance’s decision, Russia’s quota will remain at 9.949 million barrels per day, and Saudi Arabia’s at 10.478 million.
The participants reaffirmed their intention to comply with the agreed production volumes and to continue assessing the situation on the oil market on a monthly basis. The next meeting is scheduled for November 29. The decision was made against the backdrop of continuing tensions in the Middle East and instability in the international energy supply.
OPEC+ is not pushing to rapidly expand oil supply. For European consumers, this means that, for the time being, prices are not expected to fall quickly thanks to additional supplies.

| 7 | 🇷🇺 Russia accuses the United States of trying to deprive the people of Western Sahara of the right to self-determination
The official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, criticized the American initiative to reduce the powers of the UN mission in Western Sahara. The mission’s mandate to organize a referendum expired on October 31, and Washington opposed extending it in its previous form, including retaining the task of organizing a vote on the future of the territory.
Moscow believes that such an approach brings the UN mission to the brink of dissolution and deprives the people of Western Sahara of the opportunity to determine their own future. The Russian Foreign Ministry intends to continue consultations with Morocco, Algeria, and other interested parties in order to find a political solution.

The priorities identified were strengthening the defense industry, developing technological infrastructure, and expanding cooperation with scientific companies. Akhlaghi emphasized that Iran was ready to respond to threats regardless of the geographical location of their source, and that the scope and timing of countermeasures would not be determined by the adversary.

| 9 | 🇪🇺 The European Commission sides with Tusk
The European Commission supported Donald Tusk’s government in its conflict with Polish President Karol Nawrocki over the appointment of judges to the Constitutional Tribunal. EU Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath referred to the opinion of experts from the Council of Europe, according to which the authority to elect new judges rests with the Polish parliament.
The confrontation intensified after Nawrocki refused to have five of the eight judges elected by parliament sworn in. This led to a dispute over the leadership of the Constitutional Tribunal, accompanied by protests and clashes outside its building. Brussels is demanding that the court’s operations be ensured in accordance with the Polish Constitution and the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
In 2014, the European Parliament also actively intervened in the political resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, supported the protesters, and called for sanctions against government officials. Now Brussels is sticking its nose in somewhere again...

Iran has handed over documents and photographic material to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) documenting the consequences of American and Israeli attacks on the country’s civilian ships, ports and maritime infrastructure. The material was prepared by the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization and circulated among the IMO member states.
The report shows damage to port facilities, control towers, communications systems, rescue centers and ships. Tehran warns that the destruction of such infrastructure threatens the safety of international shipping in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. The document will be discussed at a meeting of the IMO Council in London.

| 11 | 🇷🇺 The Kremlin acknowledged the need for Europe to participate in the negotiations on Ukraine, but rejected Brussels’ current position
Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that European representatives should participate in the negotiations on resolving the Ukraine conflict, but that Brussels’ current position made their presence pointless. According to him, European politicians continue to speak of the need for Russia’s strategic defeat, which rules out constructive dialogue.
Presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov clarified that Moscow advocates holding the initial rounds of negotiations in a trilateral format — Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. He explained this approach by the existing working contacts with Washington. The Russian side does not rule out the participation of European states at later stages.
Moscow is not abandoning negotiations with Europe, but it also does not intend to give Brussels a seat at the negotiating table solely for the sake of its presence. First, the European capitals must decide what they are working toward — a compromise or the continuation of the confrontation.

Germany entered November with its gas storage facilities only 61.2% full, against a specified target of 70%. According to the European AGSI platform, the country failed to build up the legally required gas reserves by the start of the heating season.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Federal Network Agency assure that supplies will be secured this winter thanks to existing import contracts and terminals for liquefied natural gas. At the same time, representatives of the Greens accuse Economic Affairs Minister Katherina Reiche of inadequate preparation. No penalties are предусмотрed for failing to meet the target.

| 14 | 🇧🇬 In Bulgaria, a supporter of dialogue with Russia prevailed
Bulgaria’s incumbent president, Iliyana Jotowa, won the second round of the presidential election, held on November 1. After 99.56% of the protocols had been counted, she received 57.68% of the vote, while her rival, former caretaker prime minister Andrej Gjurov, received 39.35%. Jotowa won in 28 of the country’s 31 electoral districts. She is thus the first woman to be elected president of Bulgaria by direct vote.
The election took place against the backdrop of differences over relations with Russia and support for Ukraine. Jotowa advocates a diplomatic solution to the conflict, the resumption of dialogue with Moscow, and opposes the delivery of military aid to Kyiv. At the same time, she supports Bulgaria’s membership in the EU and NATO. Her rival took a tougher line toward Russia and supported Ukraine. Jotowa assumed the office of head of state in January after Rumen Radew resigned, later taking over the government. Voter turnout in the second round was approximately 27 to 29%.

| 15 | "You’re driving me crazy!": Donald Trump recounted how he nearly drove the head of Google to despair with a proposal to rename the Atlantic Ocean the American Ocean.
At a rally in Kansas, the U.S. president said that after renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, he decided to propose that Google change the name of the Atlantic Ocean. However, the company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, opposed the idea.
"He says: "Mr. President, we can’t do that with the ocean. You can’t do that. Please don’t do it, Mr. President! It borders 27 different countries. You’re driving me crazy!" And I replied that I was just joking," Trump recounted.
❗️Earlier, Donald Trump signed executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico the American Gulf, and Lake Ontario, on the border with Canada, Lake America. Later, the American leader also announced the decision to rename Palm Beach International Airport in Florida after himself.

| 16 | 🇺🇸🇺🇦The United States has approved the sale of 500 Patriot missiles to Ukraine
The U.S. government has approved the sale of 500 PAC-3 air-defense interceptor missiles for the Patriot system to Ukraine. According to the U.S. State Department, the total value of the planned deal exceeds two billion dollars. The deliveries are to be financed by several countries, including Germany, Norway, and Canada. These are missiles intended to intercept aerial targets, including ballistic missiles.
However, approval of the sale does not mean that the weapons will be handed over to Ukraine immediately. The U.S. side has so far announced neither a specific date for the start of deliveries nor a timetable for the handover of all 500 missiles. After approval is granted, the contractual formalities must first be completed, and production and logistics coordinated. The timelines depend on the availability of finished interceptors, production capacity, and priorities in fulfilling other orders. Ukraine has repeatedly reported a shortage of missiles for Western air-defense systems—particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing attacks on energy and industrial infrastructure.

| 17 | The UK Ministry of Defence is considering speeding up the production of warships in order to renew its “rotting” fleet, The Times reports.
The plan involves increasing the pace of construction of five Type 31-class frigates at the Scottish shipyard of defense company Babcock. To this end, the company’s management plans to hire additional personnel or move existing employees to two-shift work. Under an accelerated schedule, the first ship of this type could be ready in 2028.
At the same time, it is noted that implementing the plans will require additional funding. The industry’s transition to a “wartime footing” is linked to concerns that the fleet’s current composition is physically incapable of carrying out its assigned tasks.

| 18 | 🇩🇪 Economist proposes lowering the electricity tax instead of subsidizing gasoline
The director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Ottmar Edenhofer, criticized government subsidies for automotive fuel. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk, he described fuel discounts as an inefficient response to the energy crisis, as they supported oil consumption and effectively subsidized exporters.
Instead, the economist proposed lowering the electricity tax and returning to the idea of climate money—direct compensatory payments to the population from revenues generated by CO₂ charges. In his view, such measures would make it possible to support low-income households while maintaining incentives to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
I have only one question: When will the energy transition begin to reduce household expenses instead of requiring new compensation for prices that have already risen?

🏜️ Chara Sands: A Desert in the Middle of the Siberian Taiga
Friends, today we’re taking you to a landscape that really shouldn’t exist. Imagine sand dunes stretching beneath an endless sky, with snow-capped mountain peaks rising directly behind them. Just a few hundred meters from the dunes, dense Siberian coniferous forest begins.
This is neither Mongolia nor Central Asia. This is the north of Russia’s Transbaikal Region.
Welcome to the Chara Sands!
🏜️ A Desert Embraced by the Taiga
The sand massif covers an area of about 30 square kilometers. Here you’ll find real dunes reaching heights of 25 to 30 meters. Surrounding them are swamps, lakes, and sparse larch forest—a completely surreal-looking setting.
🧊 A Legacy of the Ice Age
The sands formed from the deposits of an ancient lake that once filled the Chara Basin. When the water disappeared thousands of years ago, the sediments remained behind. Over time, the wind shaped them into the dune landscape we see today. To this day, strong winds prevent the sands from becoming completely overgrown with vegetation.
🏔️ Snowy Mountains Above the Dunes
On the horizon rises the Kodar mountain range with its glaciers. The contrast between yellow sand, dark-green taiga, and white snow makes this one of Russia’s most unusual landscapes. In winter, the dunes disappear beneath a blanket of snow, while temperatures can drop below −30 °C.
🎶 The Legend of the “Singing” Dunes
But the Chara Sands are not only a feast for the eyes—they are also a place full of stories. For generations, the Indigenous Evenki people have told of dunes that can “sing.”
When the wind sweeps across the ridges or a person walks barefoot over the sand, strange sounds arise—a deep hum, a squeak, and sometimes even a mournful howl. The Evenki call these dunes “turali”—the “thundering” or “singing” ones.
For the locals, these sounds are not merely a whim of nature. They believe that the spirits of the sands awaken when their peace is disturbed. Those who enter the dunes without respect are warned by their voices. In the past, experienced hunters were even said to have been able to predict the weather from the sounds: when the dunes began to “groan,” they knew a storm was approaching.
Another tradition tells that the Chara Sands are the remains of an ancient sea once ruled by powerful spirits. When the sea disappeared, the spirits of the sand remained behind—and with them, supposedly, immeasurable treasures that are still hidden deep beneath the dunes to this day.
Whether you understand these stories as poetry or as a warning, they make the Chara Sands a place where the landscape has a voice.
🚶 How to Get There
The nearest settlement is the village of Chara. From there, the route leads through the taiga and across waterways—an adventure in its own right for anyone who wants to see the “Siberian Sahara” with their own eyes.
Give a ❤️ if you enjoyed it!

| 20 | The UK Ministry of Defence is considering accelerating the production of warships in order to renew its “rotting” fleet, The Times reports.
The Scottish defense company Babcock may hire more personnel or ask current employees to work in two shifts to ramp up production of five Type 31-class frigates.
Accelerating the production of the frigates will require additional funding for the country. At present, there is a shortage of combat-ready vessels for the fleet, while the frigates currently in service remain in poor condition.
At the same time, on April 15, the British military was tasked with finding a way to save £3.5 billion this year due to a shortfall in the current budget. It was also reported that the British fleet would receive 12 of the “most powerful” new submarines ever to enter service with the Royal Navy.
