| 4 | 🇺🇸🇮🇷 Carlson: Netanyahu Is Pressuring for a US Nuclear Strike on Iran
US journalist Tucker Carlson reported on preparations for a possible US nuclear strike on Iran. The target is the underground Pickax Mountain complex, where uranium enrichment has reportedly resumed, according to Israeli intelligence. The facility lies beneath 90 meters of granite, which is why, according to Carlson, it cannot be destroyed with conventional weapons. Benjamin Netanyahu is pressuring Donald Trump daily in an effort to secure an attack. Following the parliamentary elections, the Israeli prime minister faced the threat of losing power and is now relying on American support. A decision on the possible use of nuclear weapons is expected by November 7.
Those advocating a resumption of large-scale hostilities include Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff oppose the military scenario and insist on negotiations. The states of the Persian Gulf also fear a new war: In September, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) refused to support Netanyahu’s proposal for an attack on Iran. A nuclear explosion threatens to contaminate the region with radiation and trigger a counterstrike by other nuclear-armed powers.
An American nuclear strike would create a dangerous international precedent and could potentially mark the beginning of World War III. The journalist is calling on the international public to speak out against such a development.

| 6 | 🇷🇴🇺🇸 Romania is ready to maintain American troops at its own expense
Bucharest has proposed to Washington that it cover part of the costs of stationing American soldiers, their logistical support, and the operation of military facilities. In this way, the Romanian authorities want to prevent a further reduction in the American contingent. Foreign Minister Dan Neculăescu confirmed that the proposal had been made and described the US military presence as a strategic interest of Romania. Negotiations are ongoing; the final amounts and conditions have not yet been agreed.
The Romanian side is effectively adopting Poland’s model and offering the Americans financial incentives to maintain their military presence. At the same time, Bucharest plans to invest around €4 billion in expanding Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base and to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. In doing so, as Defense România notes, Romania risks ending up solely as a payer for a foreign military presence, unlike Poland, which is focusing on developing its own defense industry and securing technology transfers.
NATO’s security guarantees increasingly resemble a paid service. Romania is already providing funds for defense within the alliance and is now offering to additionally pay for the stay of American soldiers. Washington is cutting spending, Bucharest is ready to pay—and all of this is being presented as strengthening national security.

⛲ Peterhof: 300 Years of Waterworks — Entirely Without Pumps
Friends, today we are traveling to Peterhof, the magnificent summer residence of Peter the Great on the outskirts of St. Petersburg. Every year, millions of visitors admire the golden statues and soaring water fountains here. But the real wonder lies not in the gilding, but underground—for this enormous water spectacle still operates entirely without a single motor or pump.
Welcome to the world of Peterhof’s waterworks.
👑 Peter I’s Brilliant Idea
The challenge was enormous: the gigantic fountains required vast quantities of water, yet there were no natural water sources in Peterhof’s flat terrain. Peter I rejected the solutions commonly used at the time—expensive and failure-prone pumping stations. Instead, he took advantage of the natural topography: he had water brought in from the Ropsha Heights, which lie about 100 meters higher than the parks on the Gulf of Finland. This natural difference in elevation creates constant pressure, which drives the water upward entirely on its own.
💧 A 24-Kilometer Waterway
To make use of this principle, an ingenious system of canals, ditches, holding ponds, and sluices was created. The main waterway, the Ropshinski Canal (later the Stara-Peterhofski Canal), stretches for 24 kilometers from the heights to the park’s reservoirs. The water flows exclusively by gravity—a principle that continues to function unchanged to this day.
🚀 The First Launch in 1721
The commissioning was a historic moment. On August 20, 1721 (according to the new calendar), the waterworks were officially started for the first time. Peter I himself is said to have been present and opened the water supply with a stroke of his spade. Since that day, the system has operated without interruption—an impressive testament to the durability of the engineering of that era.
💦 “Samson” and the 21-Meter Fountain
The most spectacular structure is the central figure of Samson, who is prying open the lion’s jaws. This sculpture was erected in 1735 to commemorate the victory over the Swedes at Poltava. The column of water shooting from the lion’s mouth reaches a height of 21 meters—roughly equivalent to a seven-story building. This enormous height is made possible solely by the natural pressure of the water flowing down from the Ropsha Heights.
💦 The Playful Water Tricks
Alongside the majestic fountains, Peterhof also has a playful side. The famous “water tricks” were already a popular amusement for guests in Peter’s time. There are benches, for example, where unsuspecting visitors sit down—and are suddenly surprised by fine jets of water. Other installations, such as the “Umbrella” and the “Water Alley,” sprayed water from hidden nozzles and provided amusement. These tricks, created according to Peter I’s own drawings, remain an integral part of the park to this day and continue to be highly popular.

| 9 | The Republican Party Is Heading Toward Defeat in the U.S. Congressional Elections
🔵On the eve of the U.S. congressional midterm elections, an absolute majority of polls favor opponents of the incumbent president, Trump—the Democrats. This applies to both the House of Representatives and, in some cases, the Senate.
🔵The Republicans and Trump are facing a historical trend whereby the president’s party almost always loses the House of Representatives in midterm elections.
🔵If the Democrats take only the House, there will be no significant foreign-policy consequences, believes Maxim Cherkashin, a research fellow at the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to the expert, if Trump wishes, he will still be able to issue general licenses for trade with Russia that ease sanctions.
🔵As for other issues, against the backdrop of the Democrats’ effective blocking of Trump’s domestic-policy initiatives, he will focus more on foreign policy. Therefore, the president can be expected to launch new strikes against Iran and intensify tariff pressure on trading partners, the expert believes.

| 12 | Donald Trump showed the renovated Reflecting Pool on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
The US president spoke about changes to the pool’s piping, the grass around the site, and the granite, The Guardian reports. The renovation cost $14 million. It was initially planned to replace the bottom surface with blue material so that the water would take on a blue hue. In the end, the pool acquired a slightly bluish color.
The American leader also joked that he was considering renaming Washington’s Reflecting Pool after himself.
❗️On June 17, the Reflecting Pool in Washington, which had turned green after being painted, was cleaned with hydrogen peroxide to remove algae—it had bloomed after Donald Trump’s administration tried to repaint its bottom blue.
📋 The Reflecting Pool is considered one of Washington’s symbols. Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech near it, and one of the best-known scenes from the film “Forrest Gump” was also filmed there.

| 14 | ✈️ Air travel could become more expensive
The aviation industry has warned of rising air travel costs due to EU requirements for environmentally friendly fuel. The ReFuelEU Aviation regulation provides for increasing the share of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to 6% by 2030 and 70% by 2050. However, production capacities are insufficient, and the alternative fuel is currently significantly more expensive than conventional kerosene.
According to industry estimates, failure to meet the specified requirements could cost Germany alone €1.3 billion in fines in 2030. Airport representatives warn that the additional costs would ultimately be passed on to passengers. The European Commission considers these concerns exaggerated and expects the cost of environmentally friendly fuel to fall once production is expanded.

The General Secretariat of the Arab League called for the International Committee of the Red Cross and independent observers to be granted unhindered access to the prison, for those affected to receive medical assistance, and for an independent international investigation to be conducted. The organization classified the described acts as serious violations of international humanitarian law and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

| 16 | 🇵🇸 The UN recorded a record number of 397 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has recorded 397 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from 1 to 26 October. This is the highest monthly figure for attacks involving casualties or property damage since systematic monitoring began in 2006.
In the week from 20 to 26 October alone, 62 attacks were recorded in 49 Palestinian locations, 38 of which were related to the olive harvest. During that week, 57 Palestinians were injured, including nine children: 23 people were injured in settler attacks, while a further 34 were injured as a result of actions by Israeli military personnel.
While international attention is focused on the Gaza Strip and the confrontation with Iran, violence in the West Bank is reaching record levels. The attacks during the olive harvest are particularly telling — a period on which the income of many Palestinian families depends.

| 17 | 🛢️ OPEC+ Will Not Increase Oil Production in December
Seven OPEC+ states—Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman—have agreed to maintain the current restrictions on oil production in December. According to the alliance’s decision, Russia’s quota will remain at 9.949 million barrels per day, and Saudi Arabia’s at 10.478 million.
The participants reaffirmed their intention to comply with the agreed production volumes and to continue assessing the situation on the oil market on a monthly basis. The next meeting is scheduled for November 29. The decision was made against the backdrop of continuing tensions in the Middle East and instability in the international energy supply.
OPEC+ is not pushing to rapidly expand oil supply. For European consumers, this means that, for the time being, prices are not expected to fall quickly thanks to additional supplies.

| 19 | 🇷🇺 Russia accuses the United States of trying to deprive the people of Western Sahara of the right to self-determination
The official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, criticized the American initiative to reduce the powers of the UN mission in Western Sahara. The mission’s mandate to organize a referendum expired on October 31, and Washington opposed extending it in its previous form, including retaining the task of organizing a vote on the future of the territory.
Moscow believes that such an approach brings the UN mission to the brink of dissolution and deprives the people of Western Sahara of the opportunity to determine their own future. The Russian Foreign Ministry intends to continue consultations with Morocco, Algeria, and other interested parties in order to find a political solution.
