I used to think only cleverer people can truly introspect or ‘self-analyse’ (that is to stop and assess the reasons for and validity of their own ideas & feelings). Yet in politics you can really hamstring yourself through introspection, since you’ll typically be up against self-righteous arrogance, brooding resentment and radical ethnocentrism. People like that never pause to reflect they just relentlessly plough on forward, utterly convinced of their own righteousness or victimhood.
