Dear NU Community, The International Children's Day is celebrated worldwide to promote children's rights, well-being, and happiness and to remind us of our collective responsibility to ensure that every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. Whether we are parents, guardians, educators, or community members, we all play a crucial role in protecting and advocating for the children’s rights and safety. On this important occasion, let us to remind everyone once again of some key measures for children's safety and well-being: - Always ensure that children are under appropriate supervision. This is especially important during events and activities where there are large crowds or unfamiliar environments. - Make sure that children know basic emergency procedures, such as how to dial emergency services and what to do in case of a fire or other urgent situations.  - Teach children to be cautious of strangers and never to go anywhere with someone they do not know and refuse taking anything from the unknown people if left alone.  - With the increasing use of technology, it's essential to educate children about the potential risks of the internet. Teach them about privacy settings, the importance of not sharing personal information, and how to recognize and report inappropriate content or behavior. For more information on online safety, please refer to this link. - Keep windows locked and secure to prevent falls. Install window guards or stops to ensure they can't be opened wide enough for a child to climb out. For more detailed information on window safety, please refer to this link. - Whether playing sports or simply enjoying outdoor activities, ensure that children use appropriate safety gear, such as helmets and knee pads, and understand the rules to prevent injuries. - Help children learn how to swim and supervise them closely when they are in or near water, whether it's a pool, lake, or ocean. Make sure they wear appropriate flotation devices if necessary. For more information on drowning prevention, please refer to the link. - Encourage good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing, and ensure that children are up-to-date with their vaccinations to protect them from preventable diseases. More comprehensive safety tips and advice across various areas, you may find following this link. Let's celebrate Children's Day with a focus on safety and well-being for all our young ones! Dear NU Community, In light of the current epidemiological situation related to the Nipah virus in India, we would like to share important information on this virus and the related preventive measures.  About the Nipah virus: Nipah virus is a zoonotic infection transmitted from animals to humans. Transmission may occur through contact with infected animals, consumption of contaminated food, or close contact with infected individuals (respiratory secretions, bodily fluids). Symptoms may include fever, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, vomiting, and in severe cases — respiratory or neurological complications. The incubation period may last up to 14 days.  According to the guidance of the Committee of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, no cases of Nipah virus have been registered in Kazakhstan to date, but if you are traveling to or transiting through India please inform the Health and Well-being Department by email: hse@nu.edu.kz and follow the medical observation for 14 days upon arrival. Due to potential spread of other seasonal respiratory virus infections, we would like to remind you as well of the general preventive measures to stay healthy and well: - Wash your hands regularly or use hand sanitizer. - Ventilate rooms frequently and avoid crowded or enclosed spaces. - Avoid close contact with sick individuals and stay home if unwell. - Keep children with flu or cold symptoms at home. - Seek medical advice promptly if symptoms appear and follow the treatment plan. - Support your immune system with proper nutrition, hydration, sleep, exercise, and stress management. Following these measures reduces the risk of infection and helps protect the health of the university community members, your family and close ones! Sincerely Yours, Health and Well-being Department * The image is ChatGPT-generated.

Dear NU Community, Due to recent temperature fluctuations and warmer weather, icy conditions have formed across campus. Please be especially cautious, as melted snow may refreeze and create invisible ice, particularly near walkways, stairs, and building entrances. As we approach the holiday season, we would also like to remind everyone of basic fire safety precautions, especially when using decorative lighting. ❄️ Weather & Walking Safety • Rapid temperature changes may cause snow to melt and refreeze, making surfaces slippery. • Be extra careful early in the morning and in the evening. When walking outdoors: • Walk slowly and take small steps • Wear footwear with good traction • Avoid rushing, using your phone, or carrying heavy items • Use handrails on stairs and ramps Near entrances and inside buildings: • Watch for wet and slippery floors near entrances and corridors • Follow warning signs placed by cleaning staff, but stay alert even if signs are not visible 🔥 Fire Safety • Please avoid using pyrotechnics on campus • Do not leave candles, decorative lights, or electrical devices unattended • Ensure decorations do not block exits or fire safety equipment 🏥 Medical Assistance If you feel unwell or require medical attention, please seek assistance promptly by visiting your local clinic or contacting your healthcare provider. We wish you a safe, peaceful, and joyful holidays and New Year. May the coming year bring health, well-being, and success to you and your loved ones.
