Let’s discuss cryptocurrency regulation in Nigeria. Many countries around the world have already introduced regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies, including major economies such as the United States and China. While their approaches differ, one thing is clear that governments recognize that cryptocurrencies are here to stay and cannot be ignored. The question is no longer whether crypto should be regulated, but how it should be regulated. Nigeria needs smart regulation on cryptocurrencies for many reasons: ~ Good regulation protects consumers. ~ Good regulation attracts legitimate businesses. ~ Good regulation reduces fraud. The goal should not be to stop innovation. The goal should be to create an environment where innovation can thrive safely. Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology are reshaping global finance, payments, investing, and digital ownership. Yet many finance graduates leave school with little or no understanding of this rapidly growing sector. Whether we like it or not, crypto is becoming an important part of the global financial ecosystem. Our educational institutions should prepare students for the future, not just the past.

Now look at stock market now, it wiped out ₦9 trillion from investors in June alone. I’m not attacking stocks. In fact, I believe in stocks and invest in them myself. Stocks are legitimate and play an important role in wealth creation. My point is simple, there is no investment that delivers profits only, without risk or losses. The major difference between stocks and crypto is regulation. Stocks are generally more structured, mature, and regulated, while crypto is still evolving. Both markets can create wealth. Both markets can destroy wealth. At the end of the day, knowledge, research, risk management, and timing matter more than the asset class itself.
