A drought is a period of unusually persistent dry weather that continues long enough to cause serious problems such as crop damage and/or water supply shortages.
Droughts are caused by low precipitation over an extended period of time. Atmospheric conditions such as climate change, ocean temperatures, changes in the jet stream, and changes in the local landscape are all factors that contribute to drought.
Other Conditions:
High evaporation rates due to increased temperatures exacerbate water scarcity, contributing to drought conditions.
Over-extraction of groundwater depletes water reserves, intensifying drought impacts.
Poor water-retention capacity of soil leads to faster depletion of available moisture, making regions more vulnerable to drought.

RBI Reduces Cash Reserve Ratio to 4%
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reduced the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 50 basis points to 4% from 4.5% to increase financial system liquidity.
• The cut increases liquidity in the banking system, allowing banks to use freed-up funds for lending, potentially accelerating economic growth.
• The decision benefits banks by providing more resources for lending and reducing lending costs.
• The Reserve Bank of India (MPC) maintained the Repo rate at 6.5%.
• The MPC revised its GDP growth forecast from 7.2% to 6.6% due to the economy's slowdown in the second quarter.
• The inflation forecast for FY2025 was revised from 4.5% to 4.8% due to rising consumer price inflation.
Consider the following conditions:
1. Below-average precipitation over an extended period.
2. High rates of evaporation due to increased temperature.
3. Over-extraction of groundwater resources.
4. Limited water-retaining capacity of soil.
Which of the above given are the key conditions that contribute to the occurrence of droughts?
