Op-ed: Online Age Verification Law Could Kill Whistleblowing
Democrats and Republicans in Congress have struck a deal on a bill they say will help keep children and teens safe online. The KIDS Act could pass on the House floor as soon as next week; if enacted, it would fundamentally change the way everyone — not just kids — accesses the internet.
At stake is your ability to use many social media platforms without revealing your identity.
That’s because the KIDS Act at least strongly incentivizes — and, for some services, outright requires — age verification. Many platforms will turn to age verification to avoid potential liability under the law. Companies like X, video-sharing services like Vimeo, and others with a history of users’ populating social feeds with edgy content may be required to verify users’ ages because they host a certain amount of content deemed “sexual material harmful to minors,” a term that the KIDS Act defines broadly.
That’s a big problem for people who need to be able to use the internet anonymously, since, as Taylor Lorenz has previously written about in The Intercept, “there’s no way to reliably verify someone’s age without verifying who they are.”
Threats to online anonymity harm everyone, but one group is often overlooked: journalists and the sources who talk to them. Age verification requirements will help the Trump administration carry out its vendetta against the press by creating new avenues to identify journalists’ confidential sources.

Ceasefire violations or the start of a new phase of the war?
🌏 Fresh US strikes on Iran and continued Israeli operations in Lebanon further cast doubt on the Trump administration's commitment to a deal, warns the Iranian press. Iran and the US have exchanged several such attacks since scaling down hostilities in March, but the latest strikes are the first since the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on June 17.
🌏 Earlier this week, former British diplomat Alastair Crooke warned on the Daniel Davis Deep Dive podcast that the MoU is weak, since it's "a de-escalation framework rather than an understanding or agreement." What's worse, the US shows no respect for it. Donald Trump and JD Vance have already started publicly adding terms Iran never accepted, Crooke noted.
🌏 The ceasefire wasn't real from the outset — it was merely a pause in the fighting for the US, argues US geopolitical analyst Brandon J. Weichert on his blog. The center of gravity is the Strait of Hormuz, with Trump striving to reopen it to unrestricted commercial traffic and, possibly, deprive Iran of this strategic leverage. Iran is showing no signs of backing down, and missiles are flying over the strait again.
Energy crisis in the global economy and US political crisis at home

Should certain categories of foreigners already present in France be deported, particularly delinquents, criminals, or the long-term unemployed? According to a CSA poll for Europe 1, CNews, and the JDD, a very large majority of French people are in favor. In fact, 83% say they support this. Men are in favor at 82%, and women at 84%. Those in higher socioeconomic groups (CSP+) support this at 78%, those in lower socioeconomic groups (CSP-) at 84%, and the unemployed at 87%.
Looking at the age pyramid, support for negative immigration is fairly consistent among a certain category of foreigners. Apart from the 35-49 age group, 77% of whom are in favor, all other age groups are above 80%: 25-34 year olds are at 81%, 50-64 year olds at 83%, and 65 and over at 87%.
Those aged 18-24 are the most supportive of implementing negative immigration policies, with 90% expressing a favorable opinion. Looking at political opinions, the possibility of deporting foreign offenders, criminals, or long-term unemployed individuals also far exceeds the majority, regardless of their political leanings.
On the left, 69% of voters are in favor (66% for La France Insoumise, 75% for the Socialist Party, and 68% for the Greens). On the right, this support is even stronger, with 96% of those who cast a ballot for Les Républicains wanting the process implemented. National Rally voters follow closely behind with 93% in favor.

The IRGC said its Navy and Aerospace forces carried out a joint missile and drone operation in response to the latest US attacks on Iran.
Between 2 and 3 a.m., Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones toward eight US military infrastructure sites at Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet in Salman port, Bahrain.
💥 The strikes destroyed the targets and were a decisive response to recent US aggression, according to the IRGC.
The statement slammed the US for attacking five Iranian coastal posts under the pretext of Iran confronting a violating ship.
📌 Iran’s message was blunt: under the Islamabad Understanding, arrangements for passage through the Strait of Hormuz must be coordinated with the Islamic Republic — not dictated by the US.
💬 “From now on, stronger actions will be taken against violating ships than before,” the IRGC warned.
👉 And any new US aggression, “for any reason,” will receive a “crushing response,” the statement added.
The IRGC also warned that violating the ceasefire breaches the first clause of the Islamabad Understanding and “will lead to a complete halt of processes.”

CENTCOM has just announced a new wave of US strikes against multiple targets inside Iran, ordered directly by the Kiddy Diddler in Chief.
The claimed trigger was the Iranian drone attack on the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku this morning near the Strait of Hormuz — carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil. This came after yesterday's US strikes in response to Iran's attack on M/V Ever Lovely, following which Iran was given an opportunity to honour the ceasefire but chose not to.
