Really sad to see this event being cancelled over such an issue. It points to a wider disease that afflicts some members of our communities. There are some sad individuals who pretend to be hardcore online. They will usually be living comfortably in the West. They will have read a few books, they might know Arabic, but they will never offer any benefit to the world.They can only criticize anyone who does anything good. Usually these people will 1. Be hardcore followers of their own brand of a manhaj which they retroactively attribute to past scholars. They will claim to be the true vanguards of their manhaj. (e.g. This applies to both extremist Deobandi and extremist Barelvis we see today) 2. They will have half baked knowledge but will prattle on about trying to establish a caliphate. In reality they couldn’t run a basic convenience store let alone build a civilization. You will never see them take any practical steps towards promoting a caliphate. 3. They will tell you that the majority of the Ummah’s scholars are sell outs. They will call anyone who disagrees with them on even a furui issue a deviant/liberal/kafir. They will spend their time hunting for clips from any scholar in order to find anything that could vaguely be taken as “deviating from Ahlus Sunnah”. You can only be a “100% Sunni” if you agree with them on every issue. 4. They will spend a lot of time fantasizing about taking women as their sex slaves, killing all the harbi kuffar in their Western country, or about how they will enjoy humiliating all the kuffar after taking over them. You will never see any of them bring anyone to Islam. Sex and violence is at the forefront of their diseased minds. 5. They will mostly be autodidacts (and not the smart kind) or basic students/young graduates. Most of them will be unmarried but will talk a lot about how a wife must be obedient to her husband and how a woman’s only place is the kitchen and bedroom. These types of Khawarij mentality individuals among “traditional Sunni” circles are a cancer. Many teachers of ours have pointed out that it is partly due to these types of individuals that Allāh withholds political power from Sunni Muslims. Make no mistake, they would cause as much chaos and destruction to the Ummah as the Safavids did in Iran and the Wahhabis do today. They would have no problem killing millions of people for trivial reasons. The entire image they have of Islam and of the Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) is warped.
