International Children's Day – More Than Just a Celebration Every year on 1 June, millions of children around the world celebrate International Children's Day. While the day is often marked with games, concerts, and outdoor activities, its original purpose was much more serious. The idea can be traced back to a conference on child welfare held in Geneva in 1925. However, the modern observance began in 1950 after an international organisation called the Women's International Democratic Federation designated 1 June as a day to promote children's rights and well-being. Today, International Children's Day serves as a reminder that childhood should be a time of learning, safety, and opportunity. Despite significant progress in many countries, millions of children still face challenges such as poverty, limited access to education, inadequate healthcare, and exploitation. The day therefore has a dual purpose: it is both a celebration of childhood and an opportunity to raise awareness of the obstacles that many young people continue to encounter. Governments, charities, schools, and communities often organise events to highlight the importance of protecting children and ensuring that every child has the chance to fulfil their potential. 🌍 Childhood may be universal, but not every child enjoys the same opportunities.

Show them all the beauty they possess inside, Give them a sense of pride to make it easier. Let the children's laughter remind us How we used to be." (George Benson) 🎈 International Children's Day – 1 June 🎈 Today marks International Children's Day, a celebration of childhood and a reminder of the importance of education, safety, opportunity, and well-being for children around the world. As teachers, parents, and communities, we all play a role in helping young people develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to succeed in life. After all, today's children will become tomorrow's leaders, innovators, and decision-makers. To mark the occasion, we've put together a short IELTS-style reading task featuring MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). This question type is common in the IELTS Reading test and requires candidates to identify key information, understand vocabulary in context, and recognise the writer's main ideas. Read the article below carefully and then try the six questions below. Good luck! #IELTS #LearnEnglish #InternationalChildrensDay
