For the second year running, Russia’s big fleet parade in St. Petersburg was quietly shelved.

Instead, Putin popped by the Main Admiralty, took video calls from his fleet commanders (safely on land), handed out medals for the war in Ukraine, and delivered the usual lines about “striking blows” and the mighty nuclear triad.

57-year-old Alexey Korshenko was found dead on the balcony of his apartment. According to Russian authorities, he hanged himself. This official's statement marks another step towards potential general mobilization in Russia. If war is declared instead of the 'SMO,' Russia would likely enact total mobilization, including martial law: Putin would decree martial law, and a bill would be submitted to declare war. The borders would close to military-age citizens, preventing exit. Unlike the current "SMO," which targets experienced and specialized troops, mobilization would call up all reservists. Additionally, the defense ministry plans to abolish mandatory medical exams for contract soldiers and mobilized personnel, presuming everyone fit for service. This would enable rapid mobilization of large populations. Those who oppose risking their lives or health in this war should flee Russia now.
