جلسه سوم: در اين جلسه درباره نسبت فعل آدمی و قانون طبيعت و نظام علی و معلولی سخن گفتيم. همچنين درباره حقیقت فعل آدمی از ديدگاه متکلمان. بحث مفصلی را آغاز کرديم درباره معنای تکليف از نقطه نظر متکلمان و شروط آن و موضوع انسان عاقل و اينکه چه نسبتی وجود دارد میان تکليف و وجود عقل در انسان و معنای تکاليف عقلی چيست. اين پرسش را هم بحث کرديم که آیا تکلیف شخصی که خداوند می داند کافر خواهد بود از دیدگاه متکلمان جایز است يا نه. درباره تأثير این بحث ها در فهم فقهاء از شریعت و تکلیف شرعی هم بحث کردیم. In this session, we discussed the relationship between human action, the laws of nature, and the system of cause and effect. We also examined the nature of human action from the perspective of Islamic theologians (mutakallimūn).
We began a detailed discussion of the meaning of taklīf (moral/religious obligation) from the perspective of the theologians and the conditions required for it. We also discussed the concept of the rational person and the relationship between taklīf and the existence of reason in human beings, as well as the meaning of rational obligations (takālīf ʿaqlī).
We further considered the question of whether, from the perspective of the theologians, it is permissible to impose an obligation on a person whom God knows will ultimately be an unbeliever.
Finally, we discussed how these debates affect jurists’ understanding of the Sharīʿa and of religious/legal obligation.

جلسه دوم: در این جلسه بخش اول فهرست مباحثی که معمولا الهیدانان مسلمان در کتاب های کلامی خود در ذیل بحث عدل مطرح می کنند را مطرح کردیم. بحث از اينکه آيا خداوند قادر به فعل قبيح هست؟ و آيا فعل قبيح انجام می دهد؟ آيا خداوند اراده بر انجام فعل قبيح دارد؟ آيا خدا قادر به سخن گفتن و انتقال پیام به انسانهاست؟ فعل آدمی تا چه اندازه می تواند متصف به اختیار شود و آیا انسان قدرت و استطاعت لازم برای ترک و فعل همزمان دارد؟ اختیار انسان چه نسبتی با شمول قدرت و اختیار خداوند دارد؟
در مقدمه بحث هم اندکی درباره مفهوم خدا از دیدگاه فقیهان سخن گفتیم و اینکه چگونه مکلف فرض کردن انسان در علم کلام در فقه و اصول فقه اسلامی و دریافت شریعتمدار از دین نزد مسلمانان تأثير گذاشت.

In this session, we discussed the topics that Muslim theologians typically address under the discussion of divine justice (ʿadl) in their theological works. We considered whether God is capable of performing an evil or improper act, whether He actually performs such acts, and whether God wills to perform an evil or improper act. We also discussed whether God is capable of speaking and communicating His message to human beings. To what extent can human actions be characterized as voluntary? Does a human being possess the power and capacity necessary both to act and to refrain from acting? And what is the relationship between human free will and the encompassing power and will of God?
In the beginning of the session, we also discussed briefly about the concept of God from the perspective of jurists, and about how conceiving human beings as morally obligated agents (mukallaf) in Islamic theology has influenced Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), the principles of jurisprudence (uṣūl al-fiqh), and Muslims’ understanding of religion as governed by the Sharīʿa.
