Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸
Most of us are grateful to now call this great nation home. While no country is without its challenges, the United States remains a place where people can pursue opportunity, are treated with dignity, and enjoy freedoms that inspire hope.
Here's to the enduring ideals that continue to bring people from around the world together.
Happy Independence Day!

I would argue (as many have) that believing you don't have free will is, one, in fact true you would be believing something that is objectively true and second, liberating.
Most of our suffering comes from believing we have control over our actions, even our anger/disappointment toward others comes from that (somewhat).
It also comes from the fact that we think we're an agent that's going through life instead of being identical to it (that's another illusion).
Believing these things are true and practicing to see through them again and again (meditation/mindfulness) is a great tool one can have one and should have.
tracked about four hours of my mouse movement.
I thought it would mean something, some apps on the taskbar but not much.
Maybe with more data

I love this channel and his takes, I love the fact that he volunteers in conflict zones, the fact that he's giving us first hand experience, his takes on death / life

This is what believing in free will makes you do, in its absence, you're somewhat considerate, even toward human beings that cause harm to other human beings.
a well made video of the 2023 firing and subsequent reinstatement of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

He challenges the "rational actor" model, which he describes as a pervasive western cultural intuition that individuals act as independent agents moved by their own choices and preferences. He argues that this model is often used to justify legal systems and policies by framing outcomes as the result of individual responsibility rather than systemic influence
and he argues against this notion by citing internal tobacco industry documents that demonstrate how companies intentionally target vulnerable populations and manipulate behavior through psychological insights, as well as by applying social psychology experiments that often dictates human behavior more than individual disposition.
found it very interesting, reminds me of this quote
