The Draconid Meteor Shower peaks on the evening of October 8 through early morning October 9, 2026, offering a rare chance to watch shooting stars in the evening rather than after midnight.
Key Details for 2026
While the meteor shower technically becomes active tonight (Tuesday, October 6), it does not reach its maximum peak until Thursday evening, October 8 into the early morning of Friday, October 9.
• Active Dates: October 6 through 10, 2026.
• Best Time to Watch: Right after nightfall on Thursday, October 8 (roughly 8 PM to midnight).
• The Sky Conditions: Thursday night is especially perfect because the Moon will be a barely visible 3% crescent that sets before the sun. This means the sky will be perfectly dark, making it much easier to spot the meteors.
• Expected Rate: A modest 5 to 10 meteors per hour under ideal dark skies.
• Moon Phase: Favorable viewing conditions with a thin waning crescent and a new moon on October 10 meaning no bright moonlight interference.
• Origin: Dust debris from the periodic comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner.
You can certainly still catch a few stray meteors if you step outside just after sunset tonight or tomorrow, but for the best show, plan to look north on Thursday night.
Best Locations
• Northern Latitudes: Viewers located further north get the highest and clearest view of the radiant constellation.
• North America & Europe: Excellent viewing conditions occur across North America and Europe during the evening hours.
• Southern Hemisphere: Viewing is difficult and limited because the constellation Draco sits very low and sets early in the southern sky.
How to Observe
• Where to Look: Look toward the northern or northwestern sky near the constellation Draco the Dragon.
• Equipment: No telescopes or binoculars are needed. Your naked eyes provide the best and widest view.
• Environment: Go outside to a dark spot away from bright city lights and give your eyes about 30 minutes to adjust to the dark.

▶️ When Will It FINALLY Snow This Year?
Ryan Hall, Y'all
Sep 28, 2026
➡️ ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
When are you gonna see your first snow this year? In this one I show you when your town usually gets its first measurable snow, built from 30 years of snow records at almost 2,000 weather stations, and then where I think it shows up later or sooner this winter with a very strong El Nino on the way. Find your date, find your color, and you've got it. And like every year, I'm making one very specific call. Write it down.
First snow dates: NOAA station records, 1991 to 2020, via the Regional Climate Centers (ACIS). This is my forecast, not an official National Weather Service product.

WATCH: A powerful nor’easter turns deadly as it batters the East Coast, with the first reported storm-related death confirmed in New York City.
@1Brandycampbell reports on how a 56-year-old man was killed by a falling tree in Brooklyn as damaging winds continue pounding the Northeast.
The death comes as coastal flooding, power outages and dangerous winds impact the region, with some of the storm’s worst conditions still ahead.

A nor'easter could hit the East Coast this weekend, with Boston and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, facing the biggest impact.
The track of the storm remains uncertain; the closer to the coast it moves, the greater the wind and rain impacts will be.

🍁 When Will Fall Colors Peak Where You Live? 🍂
One of autumn’s biggest questions has arrived: When will the leaves reach peak color?
Our map shows the typical timing of peak fall foliage across the United States, from the earliest color in northern New England and higher elevations to the later displays across the South.
Of course, Mother Nature doesn’t follow a perfect calendar. 🍁 Elevation, rainfall, drought, temperature, wind, and local tree species can all push peak color earlier—or later—from year to year.
Take a look at the map and tell us: Where do you live, and are you seeing any fall color yet?

Today’s Fall Equinox marks the start of astronomical fall in the Northern Hemisphere and is the moment when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. From now through the Winter Solstice on December 21, the Northern Hemisphere will receive increasingly less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit around the Sun.

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has broken a 60-year record for the latest start to hurricane formation since satellite tracking began in 1966. This unprecedented quiet period is primarily driven by a very strong El Niño producing high wind shear that prevents Atlantic storms from organizing.

There are several highly intense, erratic planetary alignments happening right now that astrologers say can cause people to act reactive, moody, or "a little crazy". While Mercury isn't in retrograde, a combination of explosive planet combinations is peaking this week:
1. The Sun-Mars Conjunction (Igniting Anger)
Right now, the Sun in Virgo and Mars in Cancer are aggressively coming together. According to astrologers, this creates a lot of displaced, irrational anger and reactive moods. People are much more likely to let small, everyday details turn into intense, dramatic arguments.
2. The Venus-Pluto Square (Relationship Shockwaves)
Peaking on September 15, a tense square between Venus in Scorpio and Pluto retrograde in Aquarius is sending an electrifying shock through relationships. This alignment brings hidden grievances, power struggles, and intense emotional revelations to the surface. It can cause people to act possessive, jealous, or highly confrontational.
3. Five Retrograde Planets (The Slow-Motion Frustration)
We currently have five major planets in retrograde at the same time: Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron. When outer planets spin backward, it creates a massive undercurrent of blocked progress and internal pressure. Uranus just stationed retrograde on September 10, which specifically triggers sudden mental restlessness, erratic shifts in thinking, and unpredictable behavior.
4. Approaching the Blood Moon
To add to the tension, we are currently building toward a highly emotional Full Moon Blood Moon in Pisces later this month. The days leading up to it naturally heighten emotional sensitivity, causing people to act more on raw, erratic feelings than logic.
For a deeper dive into managing these energies, platforms like Moon Omens track these daily transits closely. The best cosmic advice for this week is to avoid picking up the bait if someone else is acting out.

One of the most haunting weather satellite images of all time – September 11, 2001.
The day began with a sky of cobalt blue. A powerful hurricane, Erin, was narrowly missing the Northeast. It skirted offshore, sparing the East Coast a Sandy-like weather disaster.
In its wake, dry, comfortable New England air was being gently swirled south over New England and the New York City Tri-State. The air was crisp and comfortable; the weather was absolutely sublime. Winds were light and northerly. At the time, it felt like the perfect fall day.
But the quiescence belied a different type of disaster – an impending, sinister act that would forever alter life in both the United States and the world as a whole.
Approximately three thousand lives would be lost – more than in any U.S. hurricane since 1928. A cataclysm of unprecedented proportions would strike New York City and reverberate around the country and the world. The 9/11 terrorist attacks would signify an inflection point in American, and world, history.
At 10:39 a.m., a NOAA/NASA satellite would peer down from space, seeing Erin offshore... and something else. Zooming in, a tendril of thick, black smoke can be seen emanating from the site of the collapsed World Trade Center towers. Surrounding it, hardly a cloud.
It remains perhaps the most chilling weather image of all time. Our thoughts remain with all those affected – and our gratitude extends to all the brave men and women who, amid the nation's darkest hour, exhibited the best of humanity.
