I read about a study from Lego when they were developing their Lego Friends line in which they found boys would turn themselves into the character they were playing with (like acting like Batman while playing with Batman) whereas girls would turn the character into themselves (make Batman go shopping and get his nails done). It explains a lot about how in virtually every single girlboss movie, there isn't a Hero's Journey Arc. Boys and men build character by "becoming the hero", and this is even posited in our fundamental play and internal imagination by instinct. The female protagonist does not become better in any way, in fact the usual trope is her "trust her heart" realization where she learns she was always perfect and just needed to affirm herself to actualize her full potential. She doesn't actually become more of a hero, and this is likely because heroism is mostly a male concept so trying to make it make sense for females with a female protagonist is like trying to bring unnatural life to Frankenstein's monster. This also explains almost all of the reasons females behave the way they do in male-typical jobs and positions of power.
