The female protagonist does not become better in any way, in fact the usual trope is her "trust her heart" realization where she learns she was always perfect and just needed to affirm herself to actualize her full potential. She doesn't actually become more of a hero, and this is likely because heroism is mostly a male concept so trying to make it make sense for females with a female protagonist is like trying to bring unnatural life to Frankenstein's monster.
