Obsessive micromanagement of trades
🟢 What is the essence of the mistake:
The trader has set a clear entry point, stop loss, and take profit. All that is needed is to let the trade run its logical course.
But... after 5 minutes, they are already checking the chart, after 10 minutes, they move the TP “a little higher to get more,” after 15 minutes, they remove the SL because “it's about to turn around,” then they re-enter the same pair “little by little” because “well, basically everything is clear.”
🟢 The result:
The entire initial structure breaks down, trades turn into complete chaos, and the psyche overheats. Even profitable days end in exhaustion or loss.
🧠 Why this happens:
1. Distrust of the system.
2. Psychological instability.
3. The illusion of participation. (It seems that “if I actively monitor the trade, I trade better.” In reality, you are simply interfering with your system.)
4. FOMO and greed.
🚩 How to get out of this trap:
▸ Write down a clear plan for the trade. Before entering: where to enter, where to set SL, where to set TP, what is the risk. After entering — no changes except for a break-even stop according to the plan.
▸ Walk away from the chart, close the terminal. Set price alerts. A trade is not a reason to sit and watch the candles move.
▸ Keep a log of your interventions. Write down how many times a day you intervened in a trade and how it affected them. You will be surprised. This will help you realize the scale of the problem.
Your task is to execute the plan without distortion. This is what provides stability.
If you find yourself unable to calmly let a trade reach TP or SL, it's not about the market. It's about your mindset. And if you want to trade at a serious level, you need to eradicate this mistake.
