You have itching, you buy an antifungal cream… but what if the real problem is SCABIES?
Here is one important difference:
SCABIES
• Often causes intense itching, especially at night
• May affect the spaces between the fingers, wrists, waist, armpits, buttocks, or genital area
• Tiny bumps or thin burrow-like lines may appear
• Other people in the same household may also start itching
FUNGAL SKIN INFECTION
• Often produces a scaly, ring-shaped or spreading rash
• The edge may be more noticeable than the centre
• Commonly affects areas such as the groin, feet, or other warm, moist parts of the skin
HOW ARE THEY TREATED?
Scabies requires an anti-scabies medicine, such as permethrin, used correctly according to medical advice. Close household contacts may also need assessment/treatment because scabies spreads through close contact.
Fungal infections require an antifungal treatment, not an anti-scabies medicine.
Using the wrong treatment can delay proper care. Steroid-containing combination creams can also make some fungal infections harder to recognize and treat.
The biggest lesson: itching alone does NOT tell you whether it is scabies or fungus.

ተጠርጣሪው አቶ ዳግማዊ ዳንኤል የተባሉ የሆስፒታሉ የፋርማሲ ባለሙያ ሲሆኑ፣ በዕለቱ ምሽት 2፡00 ሰዓት ገደማ በሙያቸው የተጣለባቸውን አደራና የሙያ ሥነ-ምግባር በመጣስ የመንግሥት ንብረት የሆኑ መድኃኒቶችን በሁለት ካርቶን አሽገው ከሆስፒታሉ ግቢ ለማስወጣት ሲሞክሩ መያዛቸው ተገልጿል።
በወቅቱ ከተጠርጣሪው ጋር ተይዘው በቁጥጥር ስር የዋሉት መድኃኒቶች 15 ስትሪፕ Coartem (6*4)፣ 30 ስትሪፕ Coartem (6*2) እና 20 ስትሪፕ Primaquine (7.5 mg) ሲሆኑ፣ በአጠቃላይ 65 ስትሪፕ መድኃኒት በቁጥጥር ስር መዋሉን ፖሊስ ጽሕፈት ቤቱ ገልጿል።
ተጠርጣሪው መድኃኒቶቹን ደብቀው ከሆስፒታሉ ለማስወጣት የቻሉት በወቅቱ በሥራ ላይ በነበሩት የሆስፒታሉ ጥበቃ አባል አቶ ናሆም ሶንቤ በተደረገ ንቁ ክትትል መሆኑም ተገልጿል።
በአሁኑ ወቅት ተጠርጣሪው በፖሊስ ቁጥጥር ስር ሲሆኑ፣ በጉዳዩ ላይ የምርመራ መዝገብ ተከፍቶላቸዋል። ምርመራው እንደተጠናቀቀም መዝገቡ ለፍርድ ቤት እንደሚቀርብ ፖሊስ አስታውቋል።
