Valley, Amsterdam Architect: MVRDV Structural Engineer: Arup The Valley is a 3-tower building complex located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, designed by MVRDV. The project incorporates a unique jagged façade, resulting in each apartment being distinct, a challenge met using advanced computational tools. The development of these tools by Arup's team, including Alexandros Christodoulou and Mathew Vola from Arup Amsterdam, and Gijs Rikken from MVRDV Rotterdam, allowed for real-time design optimization and performance assessment. This tool automated the evaluation of various performance criteria such as daylight access, structural integrity, and privacy, enabling continuous iterative improvements. As a result, the design team could efficiently address complex engineering and architectural requirements.

Hotel Marcel, New Haven, Connecticut Architect: Marcel Breuer (Becker + Becker) The Armstrong Rubber Company Building, located in New Haven, Connecticut, and designed by Marcel Breuer in 1968, has a rich history and architectural significance. Initially serving as the headquarters for the Armstrong Rubber Company and later occupied by Pirelli Tire Co., the building remained vacant for over 20 years before its transformation into the Hotel Marcel.
