| 2 | Another Session Of #nowyouknowwithena : Useful Tips ( i hope ) For Speaking Test !
These are my personal tips as an ordinary student who has never gotten anything below than 90 since I was in primary school 🔥
[ PART 1 ]
The teacher's going to ask you some general questions. The answer's simple but make it longer! For example :
1. What is your name?
❌ "My name is Bedah."
✅ "My name is Zabedah binti Lebai, but you can call me Bedah as short."
2. Where do you live?
❌ "I live in Sungai Petani, Kedah."
✅ "I live in Sungai Petani, Kedah, one of the tourist attractions in Malaysia."
3. What country would you like to visit someday?
❌ "I would like to visit South Korea."
✅ "I would like to visit South Korea because I'm attracted to their culture."
4. Do you plan to work after your exams?
❌ "Yes."
✅ "Yes, I would like to gain some experiences before getting into adulthood."
[ PART 2 ]
The teacher's going to give you a topic to talk about and some questions that you need include in your talk in order to complete the task. Calm yourself down, it's really not that hard. Just answer the questions in the booklet given and you're good to go! Don't make it complicated, keep it simple but cool.
☆ Talk about a friendship you started with someone.
• Who is the person?
• How the friendship started?
• What do you like about him/her?
• How teenagers can maintain strong friendship?
✅ When I was 12, I started a friendship with a really beautiful girl. Her name is Aina, she was my classmate back in the days. The friendship started when I accidentally dropped my pencil under her desk, I was so scared to ask her to pick the pencil up for me but surprisingly she picked it up without me asking her for it. After that incident, we started talking and became really close after several days. I really adore her kindness, energy, and honesty. I think, teenagers can mantain strong friendships by being honest and helpful to each other like we always do.
[ PART 3 ]
The teacher's going to give you and your partner a bubble map of a topic with six points to talk about together. You'll be given 20 seconds to look at the task.
• During that 20 seconds, distribute 3 points for each of you and decide which one of those 6 points will be your final decision.
• You'll need to describe your opinion on each point, whether you agree or disagree and why you do so.
• You can tell about your experience as an evidence to support your explainations. For example ; childhood memories, things that actually helped you, etc.
✅ "I think that listening to music does help students to study English. This is because, a lot of teenagers these days prefer to listen than to read. "Line Without A Hook" by Ricky Montmogery is one of the songs that helped me studying English. Do you agree with me, Bedah?"
• At the end of the talk, you need to decide one point that both of you think is the best out of all and explain it, of course.
✅ "We both decided that reading novels helps students to learn English the most because there are a lot of fun genre that could attract students to read and would help expand their vocabulary."
• The teacher will ask both of you a question regarding the topic given. I would say its quite hard because you need to think carefully to answer it. But don't panic! Just keep giving simple answers.
☆ How far do you think learning English helps people to live a successful life?
✅ "I think that learning English can increase job opportunities. This is because, many employers, especially in international companies, require English proficiency in their employees. Even the simplest job requires you to speak in English. For example, you need to know basic English to be a supermarket cashier so that you can assist customers regardless of the languages they speak." | 15 |
| 3 | first things first, let's start with UBBI!
before my UBBI last year, i literally studied for it the night before the exam. 😭 not my proudest academic moment, and i definitely do NOT recommend following in my footsteps because you guys still have a whole week to prepare!
however, i'll share what i did that night so you can take some tips from my experience. these are just the things that worked for me, okay? 🤍
୨ৎ part 1: prepare for the questions
- i've shared a file containing UBBI questions, so make good use of it!
- the night before my exam, i went through EVERY SINGLE QUESTION in the file and practised answering them out loud by myself.
- and when i say every question, i mean EVERY question. i even asked myself "what's your name?" approximately 827 times. at that point, my name was the one thing i was absolutely sure of. 😭
- the goal is to familiarise yourself with the questions and practise answering them confidently. that way, when the assessor asks you a question, you won't have to spend five business days figuring out what to say.
- we can never know exactly which questions the assessor will ask, but the file is a great place to start. some part 1 questions may be repeated from previous years, so practising them can definitely help!
୨ৎ parts 2 & 3: the art of yapping 🗣️
honestly, i wasn't a big fan of parts 2 and 3 because we actually had to think about what to say. part 1? manageable. parts 2 and 3? suddenly, my brain decided to go on leave. 💀
so, what did i do? i relied on my own experiences instead of trying to memorise factual information.
for example, let's say the question is:
"talk about ways to save money."
instead of trying to come up with complicated financial advice like i'm a financial consultant with 20 years of experience, i'd say something like:
"one way to save money is by keeping some of our allowance instead of spending all of it. for example, my mother always reminds me to save rm50 in my piggy bank whenever i receive my monthly allowance. after putting that money aside, i can spend the remaining amount on other things i need or want."
see what i did there? HAHAHA. 😭
- i used a personal experience.
- i explained it in a simple way.
- i didn't need any statistics, research or complicated facts.
- i just talked about something that actually happened in my life!
of course, you can include factual information if you know it. but if you don't, don't panic! your own experiences, examples and opinions can help you develop your answers, as long as they are relevant to the question.
the trick is to elaborate on your points instead of giving one-word answers and hoping the assessor can read your mind. unfortunately, mind-reading isn't part of the assessment. 🤝🏻
୨ৎ a little reminder before we start
these are just my personal experiences and the strategies i used during my own UBBI preparation. what worked for me might not work exactly the same way for everyone, so take what helps you and practise accordingly!
i'll share more detailed tips for each part below, including the techniques i actually used during my preparation. let's get that c1 together, insyaAllah! 🤍🫡 | 7 |

| 5 | hello, everyone! 🤍
after being silent for almost half a year, i have finally decided to crawl out of my college cave and make my first appearance here again. college has been keeping me so busy that i almost forgot i had a life outside of it. 😭
anyway, i'm aina, from the spm batch of 2025! i managed to achieve c1 in all four categories in spm, and since the english paper is getting closer, i guess it's time for me to put my skills to good use and become your unofficial “pecutan terakhir” tutor HAHAHAHA.
the funny thing is, i have my own exams next week, so technically, i should be worrying about my own academic survival right now. but hey, why not struggle together? 🤝🏻
jokes aside, i'm more than happy to help you guys with anything related to english! whether it's grammar, writing, speaking, or just convincing yourself that c1 is actually achievable, i'll try my best to help.
and trust me, it IS possible, insyaAllah! i'm not saying it'll be easy, but we're not going to let the english paper humble us without a fight. let's work towards that c1 together, guys! may all of us managed to achieve it, insyaAllah. may our efforts pay off, our brains function properly during the exam, and our english suddenly become immaculate the moment we enter the examination hall. Aamiin to that. 🫡💗 | 26 |
