From Abu Abdullah Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq (Pbuh), who said: When the Christians of Najran came to visit the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), their leader, the bishop, the wise man, and the chief were present. They attended their prayers and began striking their bells. The companions of the Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said, "This is in your mosque." The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Leave them." When they finished, they approached the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and asked, "To what do you call?" He replied, "I call you to bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and that Jesus is a created servant who eats, drinks, and speaks." They asked, "Who is his father?" Then revelation came down to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) instructing him to ask them, "What do you say about Adam? Was he a created servant who eats, drinks, and marries?" They said: “Yes.” Then he (pbuhp) said: “Then who is his father!” They were taken aback and remained silent. Then Allah revealed the verse {Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was}. Till { "And whoever disputes with you concerning him after knowledge has come to you - say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars [among us} The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said, "Confront me, if you are truthful. If I am truthful, then the curse of Allah will be upon you, and if I am lying, then it will be upon me." They said, "Let us agree to a mubahala (a mutual prayer against each other)." When they returned to their homes, their leaders, the chief, the wise man, and the bishop said, "If he comes to mubahala with a group of his people, then he is not a prophet. If he comes to mubahala with his family then indeed he is a prophet." The next morning, they came to the Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) with Imam Ali, Fatimah, Hassan, and Hussayn (pbut). The Christians asked, "Who are these?" They were informed, "This is his cousin, his successor, and his son-in-law Ali son of Abi Talib (pbut), and this is his daughter Fatimah, and these are his sons Hassan and Hussayn (pbut)." They recognized them and said to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), "We agree to your terms. Grant us your satisfaction and exempt us from mubahala." The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) made a peace treaty with them and they departed.
