Reflections Over Sūrah al-Qāri'ah (The Terrifying Calamity of The Day of Resurrection)

• And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allāh. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly.
[Qur’ān, Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:281]
• A chapter that reveals some of the tremendous events that will unfold on the Day of Resurrection.
• Al-Qāriʿah (The Striking Calamity): Why was it given this name? Because of the terrifying events of that Day, which will strike the hearts and disturb the people.
• A Day when the mountains will become like fluffed wool.
• The earth will be left completely level and flat.
• The fate of the people on that Day, and the honour or humiliation they will receive according to their deeds.
• The Scales on the Day of Resurrection: what will be weighed upon them?
• The tremendous weight of the shins of ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allāh be pleased with him) on the Day of Resurrection.
• Allāh asks little of us, yet promises immense rewards in return.
• Practical ways a person can make their Scale of good deeds heavy on the Day when every deed will matter.

The Excellence and Virtues of Seeking Forgiveness
By Ustādh Abu 'Abdur Rahmān Saleem (may Allāh preserve him)
• One of the greatest means of attaining Allāh’s mercy is seeking forgiveness and making tawbah.
• Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allāh, so that you may receive mercy? [Qur’ān, Sūrah an-Naml: 46]
• All the children of Ādam sin, so Allāh opened for them the door of repentance and promised to forgive sins.
• Whoever does evil or wrongs himself, then seeks Allāh’s forgiveness, will find Allāh All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Qur’ān, Sūrah an-Nisā’: 110]
• Have good thoughts of Allāh. When you sin, return to Him with sincerity and remorse, and He will forgive you.
• Be constant in seeking forgiveness, in ease and hardship, as the righteous predecessors were.
• They sought forgiveness not only for sins, but also for shortcomings in worship.
• True istighfār is not merely words on the tongue, it requires sincerity and remorse.
• Seeking forgiveness is a means of removing hardships and protecting societies from Allāh’s punishment.
• Seek forgiveness for yourself and all Muslims, especially your parents, family, and those who have passed away.
• A tremendous hadeeth highlighting the virtue of seeking forgiveness for the Muslims.

The Virtues of Giving a Goodly Loan and its Rules and Regulations

• The beautiful parable given by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم describing how the believers should be with one another.
• The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم encouraged social solidarity.
• Allāh has commanded us to help one another upon righteousness and to assist those in need.
• Helping those in need by lending them money in order to ease their affairs.
• Hadeeth: Every loan is an act of charity.
• Those who have the means and are able should not withhold the blessings of Allāh from a needy person seeking a loan.
• One must be careful not to lend to those who are known to be irresponsible or known not to repay their loans.
• There are tremendous rewards for removing difficulties from others.
• A Goodly Loan is a loan given for the sake of Allāh, without seeking any benefit nor a return in exchange.
• It is from ribā (usury) when a loan yields a return.
• The lender should not cause any form of harm to the borrower or remind them of the favour.
• The lender should be patient if the borrower is genuinely struggling to repay the loan.
• There are amazing and great rewards for being patient with the borrower.
• The importance of having witnesses when making a contract for a loan.
• There are great benefits, both individually and socially, in lending money to those in need.

The Seriousness of Debt: A Trust That Must Be Repaid in This Life or in The Hereafter
By Ustādh Abu 'Abdur Rahmān Saleem (may Allāh preserve him)
• No one will escape the reckoning of Allāh.
• Every right that has been violated will be justly restored to its rightful owner on the Day of Judgement.
• Among the affairs in which negligence and injustice frequently occur are financial dealings.
• One such injustice is borrowing people's money whilst being negligent or careless about repaying it.
• A Muslim should not be hasty or careless when taking on debt, particularly when there is no genuine need for doing so.
• Before borrowing, a person should sincerely ask themselves: Do I really need to borrow this money? Am I genuinely able to repay it? Or am I simply living beyond my means?
• The Prophet ﷺ would seek refuge in Allāh from falling into debt.
• Debt can become a cause of lying and breaking promises.
• Debt can ruin friendships, damage relationships and even divide families.
• The matter of debt is so serious that Allāh revealed an entire verse concerning it , the longest verse in the Qur’ān.
• The Prophet ﷺ informed us that the martyr is forgiven for everything except debt.
• Such was the seriousness of debt that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would refrain from personally offering the funeral prayer over someone who had died whilst he had a debt.
• Particularly severe is the matter of borrowing money without having the intention to repay it.
• Hadeeth: The only recompense for a loan is to praise the lender and repay him.
• Hadeeth: The best of you are those who are best in repaying their debts.
