Striving for contentment One of the greatest means of attaining peace of mind, contentment, and happiness is to train ourselves not to have this character of always complaining about the difficulties and trials we may experience in life. Instead, we should train and accustom ourselves to be grateful and patient, and to continually reflect upon the countless blessings that Allāh has bestowed upon us. No one endured hardships like our Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. He lost both of his parents from a young age, buried all of his children during his lifetime except Fātimah, lost his two of his beloved wives, witnessed the persecution and martyrdom of some of his beloved companions, was driven out of Makkah, the most beloved land to him, faced multiple attempts on his life, endured poverty to the extent he would tie a stone on his stomach from the pains of hunger, and more. Yet do you find him complaining about his circumstances? Subhān Allāh!!! Rather, he صلى الله عليه وسلم remained patient grateful and optimistic, viewing every hardship through the lens of the Hereafter. When 'Umar رضي الله عنه saw the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sleeping on a straw mat, which left marks on his blessed side, he began to weep. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked him: "What makes you weep?" 'Umar replied: "The kings of Persia and Rome live luxurious palace, whilst you are the Messenger of Allāh (and are in this state). The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم responded: "Are you not pleased that this (temporary) world is for them, while the (everlasting) Hereafter is for us?" Look at the mindset of our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. He transformed what outwardly appeared to be hardship and difficulty into positivity and a source of hope by looking beyond this temporary and fleeting world to what is everlasting. And how many a time has a test, trial and a difficulty in reality been a chance from Allāh to fix ourselves, and to turn back to Him before it is too late.

Forty Hadeeth Concerning The Heart By Shaykh 'Abdulilah Lahmami (may Allāh preserve him) Lesson Six Hadeeth no.25 No one who has an atom's weight of arrogance (pride) in their heart will enter Paradise. Hadeeth no.26 ...This is a mercy that Allāh has placed in the hearts of His servants, and Allāh shows mercy only to those of His servants who are merciful. Hadeeth no.27 Indeed, patches (of being preoccupied) come over my heart, and I seek Allāh's forgiveness one hundred times a day. Hadeeth no.28 The heart of an old person remains youthful in two things: love of the life of this world and long hopes (wishful thinking). https://soundcloud.com/markazmuaadh/forty-hadeeth-concerning-the-5
