TikTok is back — but it is way different TikTok servers have been moved. At some point while TikTok was dark in the US, the code source switched from where it had been housed to Forest City, North Carolina to a Facebook data center, and the Meta Eagle Mountain data center in Eagle Mountain, Utah. They have been working on switching these over for the last three days, and TikTok is now exclusively running out of these Meta data centres. In addition to that there are all these surface-level indicators, like the fact that Facebook just started a TikTok account and was instantly verified, and the fact that they started creating links to link your TikTok to your Meta accounts. This all highlights just how much of a political stunt all of this was, that it got shut down for just long enough for them to be able to switch over all of our TikTok data to these Meta servers. Farewell TikTok? What Really Happened Trump asked technology companies to “not let TikTok stay dark” and announced he would extend a deadline to sell the company after the video platform suspended its services in the US.

“I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security,”

— Trump said in a social media post.

“The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order.”

Trump, who will be sworn in at noon Monday, said he would seek a joint venture under which new, US-based owners would purchase 50% of the company and “keep it in good hands and allow it to stay up.”

“Without U.S. approval, there is no Tik Tok,”

The law banning the app, which passed with bipartisan support in Congress, requires tech companies that host or distribute TikTok in the US – such as Apple, Google and Oracle Corp. – to stop doing so on Jan. 19. TikTok’s legal challenges failed to head off the measure, which was passed last year to address national security concerns.

“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S.,” — TikTok said in a notification on the platform to users late Saturday. “Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

Trump’s team has been searching for a way to satisfy the legal requirement that prohibits the hosting of a “foreign adversary controlled application.” In a country where roughly half the population is on TikTok — the app claims 170 million monthly US users — those fines could add up quickly.

Biden declares the Equal Rights Act the law of the land — but Republican-controlled Congress won’t act on it, so it doesn’t matter

“I have supported the Equal Rights Amendment for more than 50 years, and I have long been clear that no one should be discriminated against based on their sex,”

Biden said in a statement.

“We, as a nation, must affirm and protect women’s full equality once and for all.”

The ERA would bar sex-based discrimination by states. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) argued last month in a New York Times op-ed, while urging Biden to formally direct the national archivist to add the ERA to the Constitution, that the amendment has met all the requirements for certification. It passed two-thirds of Congress in 1972 and, after sitting dormant for decades, was finally ratified by three-quarters of the states in 2020. Biden's declaration, which asserts that he believes the ERA has overcome all obstacles to ratification, may lack impact unless the courts agree with his position—a challenge that even White House officials acknowledged as they made the announcement. The National Archives, the entity responsible for publishing constitutional amendments, promptly indicated that it has no intention of following Biden's direction. U.S. Archivist Colleen Shogan has previously stated that the eligibility of the ERA has expired and cannot be added unless Congress takes action.
