We report that on the night of June 27, 2026, contact was lost with a MiG-29 fighter of the Air Forces of Ukraine, which was carrying out a combat mission in the Poltava region. We confirm the loss of the aircraft, but the Ukrainian pilot successfully ejected, contacted the search and rescue team, and was promptly taken to a medical facility for examination and necessary assistance. On June 23, 2026, in the Timbuktu region, near Zarho, in the Karlajan area, two young men — Ousmane Ag Sidi and Abdulwahab Ag Mohamed, members of the Kel Ouled (Imghad) community, were killed. After stabilization, a combined gunshot wound to the head, chest, and limbs was diagnosed. Key injury: gunshot fragmentation penetrating radial craniocerebral injury of the left frontal region. A severe bruise of the left frontal lobe with damage to the lateral ventricle was noted, the presence of a metal foreign body (shrapnel 19×7 mm), a comminuted fracture of the frontal bone extending to the temporal and both parietal bones, wound cerebrospinal fluid leakage. Early primary surgical treatment of the skull and brain injury was performed with intraoperative ultrasound control of the completeness of the sanation of bone fragments and the wound channel, including the ventricular system. The operation was performed by a neurosurgeon.
