It does not look peaceful. It does not look enlightened. It does not look like unconditional love wrapped in golden light. It looks like exhaustion. It looks like leaving the room early. It looks like not answering the phone. It looks like avoiding conversations you used to tolerate. It looks like sitting in silence and realizing that most social interactions feel hollow, scripted, and strangely painful. And then comes the guilt. Because you were told that becoming more conscious should make you more loving, more open, more compassionate, more accepting of everyone. So why do you suddenly feel like you cannot be around most people anymore? Because awakening does not only open your heart. It also sharpens your discernment. You begin to feel what is real and what is performance. You notice the gossip hidden inside casual conversation. You notice the ego games behind certain smiles. You notice how often people speak just to fill silence. You notice how much of your old life required you to shrink, pretend, laugh, agree, and play along. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it. This does not mean you hate people. It means your soul is refusing to keep abandoning itself for the comfort of others. Sometimes the people who drain you are not even bad people. They are just connected to an old version of you. The version that overexplained. The version that people-pleased. The version that tolerated disrespect. The version that confused being liked with being loved. The version that stayed in rooms where its spirit was slowly leaving the body. So when you begin to withdraw, it is not always rejection. Sometimes it is retrieval. You are retrieving your energy. You are retrieving your attention. You are retrieving the parts of yourself that were scattered across conversations, obligations, family roles, friendships, and social masks. But be careful. This phase has a shadow. There is a difference between discernment and superiority. Do not confuse your need for solitude with being above people. Do not call everyone “low vibration” just because they trigger something unresolved in you. Some people are not toxic. Some people are just unconscious. Some people are just wounded. Some people are simply not yours to carry. You can love people without giving them full access to you. You can have compassion from a distance. You can forgive someone and still not re-enter the same dynamic. That is not cold. That is wisdom. Awakening does not mean becoming available to everyone. It means becoming honest about what your spirit can no longer digest. At first, this may feel lonely. But eventually, the loneliness becomes clean. It becomes silence. Then peace. Then clarity. Then power. And one day you realize: You did not lose your love for people. You lost your addiction to false connection. That was never hatred.
