مارلنه دیتریش، بازیگر، خواننده و چهرهٔ پیشگام سینمای کلاسیک، در آغاز قرن بیستم از برلین برخاست و خیلی زود به نمادی جهانی در هالیوود بدل شد. او با صدایی زمزمهگر و چهرهای مرموز، تماشاگران را مجذوب خود کرد؛ اما چیزی فراتر از جذابیت در او بود. آگاهی از تصویر، قدرت، و مرزهای قابل جابهجایی زنانگی. مارلنه یکی از نخستین زنانی بود که کتوشلوار مردانه را نه بهقصد تقلید، بلکه برای بازتعریف جذابیت زنانه بر تن کرد. او از اغواگری، لباسی اندیشیده ساخت؛ لباسی که میتوانست در برابر کلیشهها بایستد، فرمان دهد، و همچنان زن باقی بماند. در اوج شهرت، نازیسم را رد کرد، تابعیت آمریکایی گرفت و در جبهههای جنگ جهانی دوم برای سربازان آواز خواند. او به چهرهای تبدیل شد که هم بر پردهٔ سینما میدرخشید، هم در دل مقاومت، صدایی زنانه و قدرتمند بود. مارلنه با آمیختن ظرافت، جسارت و کنترل، تصویری تازه از زنِ مستقلِ معاصر ساخت. او پیش از آنکه واژهٔ «آیکون» رایج شود، آن را زیست؛ زنی که تصویرش، میراثی برای قرنها شد.#Velvetstrength
