Rep. Omar seeks donations after federal agents raid her home
Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar released an email seeking donations after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided her Washington, D.C., home, The Hill reported.
"Stand with Ilhan Omar," the email read, according to a screenshot that The Hill's partner network, NewsNation, obtained. "Donald Trump and DHS have opened a baseless, partisan investigation into Ilhan Omar, and she needs us by her side as they escalate their attacks."
“Chip in whatever you can to make sure Ilhan can beat Trump and keep fighting for our progressive values in Congress,” the email continued...

US political theater ramps up as "Europe" plans to take Russia on "alone"
NATO leadership has talked about a "theory of victory" against a Russian "invasion" and specifically the US not needing to be involved;
Of course Russia is never going to invade - and these plans are instead being made ahead of another Ukraine style provocation/encroachment on Russia and responding to Russia's attempts to defend itself;
Be reminded this fits in precisely with US policy including "burden sharing" and "division of labor" between the US and its proxies, especially Europe;
The US regularly performs theater where it pretends to distance itself both from Ukraine and wider Europe SOLEY to manage perception regarding what is in reality Washington's role as the primary belligerent in the war;
Regardless of episodes where the US has threatened or apparently withheld support to Ukraine/Europe, US involvement in enabling the war has constantly expanded year to year with the only limit being the US' atrophied military industrial base;
Historically, this sort of political theater is performed ahead of crucial escalations the US seeks to contain itself (and only itself) from the fallout of.

IRGC says massive container ship sinks after hitting mine near Hormuz
The ship carrying thousands of containers was passing through an "unauthorized" route in the Strait of Hormuz, one of several that the IRGC has vowed to block in the coming days.
...The vessel caught the mine while passing through the "dangerous" route in violation of Iranian naval warnings and sank on Wednesday morning after being set on fire, according to the IRGC navy.
"The Iranian Navy has adopted a new deployment formation, positioning operational units east of the Strait of Hormuz and across the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman," Iran's navy said Wednesday, according to Tasnim News Agency...

UK's only naval icebreaker breaks down
The British Navy has been left without its only icebreaker after HMS Protector suffered double engine failure at sea, The Telegraph reported on Tuesday. The breakdown adds to mounting concerns about Britain's readiness for a major war and persistent funding problems.
HMS Protector, which was originally built in Norway in 2001, suffered simultaneous engine defects while departing Britain and had to be towed back to the Devonport naval base in Plymouth, the report says.
Maintenance failures are suspected, according to The Telegraph, although the full extent of the damage is unclear. If it cannot be repaired, a replacement may not arrive until the 2030s, the paper said...

Ukrainians blast SpaceX limits on Starlink
US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Vladimir Zelensky to halt strikes on Russian refineries and to hold an election.
...The development was reported on Wednesday by Sergey Beskrestnov, Zelensky's technology adviser, who claimed that SpaceX had imposed a speed limit of 100 miles per hour on Starshield, its military grade satellite communications service, without informing Kiev in advance.
"Our defense forces were not notified of this restriction, and it has resulted in the disruption of several missions," he wrote, adding that the move was clearly connected to the "current political situation."
I love how Ukrainians still think the whole world owes them something. Unique peoples... But anyway, we've already discussed this. It's bullshit theatre. Fifth round of French student protests erupts into clashes
Officers fired tear gas as protesters hurled cobblestones during nationwide demonstrations demanding better learning conditions.
...More than 6,800 people have been detained since the demonstrations began last month, when students joined striking public sector workers. Around 161,500 people took part in protests on Tuesday, including 41,500 in Paris, according to the Interior Ministry. Organizers put nationwide turnout at 480,000...
...Interior Minister Laurent Nunez also accused the left wing groups Le Poing Leve and Revolution Permanente of encouraging violence during student protests in the Paris suburbs. Both groups rejected the allegations, accusing the minister of overseeing a "brutal crackdown."

EU launches three year "security mission" to bolster Lebanese army
...The decision was made at a meeting of EU foreign ministers. The mission "will advise and assist the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Internal Security Forces to strengthen territorial control, border security, and internal security," said EU Foreign Policy chief Kaja Kallas.
"Europe is invested in Lebanon's future," she added. The EU Council said the mission will have an initial mandate of three years and will include both a "civilian pillar" and a 'military pillar.' The military pillar will provide advisory support and training to strengthen the capabilities of the LAF for border security and maritime security."
The civilian pillar will include training for Lebanon’s internal security forces in dealing with “drug smuggling” and “cybercrime."
Shame the EU isn't as "invested" in their own future and their own border security. Hard to do both, I guess. Get fucked, EU citizen. Your taxes will go to help Israel instead.

At least 17 airlines from 13 countries cancel flights to Saudi Arabia
Close to 1,500 flight cancellation listings were recorded across Saudi Arabia's major airports on 11 and 12 October, according to Flightradar24 data reviewed by Gulf Business. Riyadh alone lost 98 percent of its scheduled traffic on Sunday, with 655 cancellations.
Gulf carriers including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, and Kuwait Airways are among those that have cut services, alongside EgyptAir, Lufthansa Group, and several Indian and Pakistani airlines.
To return their citizens home during the closures, Saudi embassies in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, and Kuwait are facilitating bus trips back to the kingdom...

Musk donates $276M to GOP in massive midterms push, marking largest political donation in US history
...America PAC is a political action committee founded by Musk in 2024 to support Republican candidates and conservative ballot initiatives. Powered by hundreds of millions of dollars in personal funding from Musk, the organization focuses primarily on large scale voter canvassing and targeted digital media campaigns.
Ahead of the midterms, Musk is the largest known donor, contributing $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund this summer. The donation ranks among the largest political contributions in United States history, as first reported by The New York Times and later confirmed by Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for Musk’s super PAC.

US, Europe drafting four point plan to settle Ukraine conflict
According to the sources, Washington and Brussels are moving toward a joint peace proposal that would deliver financial and security benefits to both Ukraine and Russia as a baseline for a territorial settlement. A US official said the package would have four basic components, including a proposal for Russia to reach an economic and security deal with Europe that would restore stability to the region.
"Ukraine's reconstruction would be the first pillar," Ignatius said, adding that the negotiators had asked Kiev for detailed cost estimates.
Security guarantees for both Ukraine and Russia would constitute the second essential component. However, it remains unclear what security arrangements are expected to be offered to Moscow...

Le Pen projected to win French presidential election
The leader of the right wing National Rally would defeat both left wing and centrist rivals in hypothetical runoffs, a new survey suggests.
Published on Monday, the Toluna Harris Interactive survey for French broadcasters M6 and RTL puts Le Pen, the longtime face of the National Rally (RN), at 67% against Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the left wing France Unbowed party, and 56% against former centrist Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.
Le Pen also leads all five first round scenarios tested, with 35% to 37% support. Melenchon comes second with 18% to 19%, while Philippe polls between 13% and 17%...

Putin wants Ukraine deal more than Zelensky - Trump
The Ukrainian leader should focus on securing peace rather than criticizing Washington's diesel deal with Moscow, the US president has said.
...Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump claimed both Moscow and Kiev support the energy ceasefire which he announced on Sunday. Neither Russia nor Ukraine has confirmed the truce. "I think they want to make a deal, but they don't know how. But we're going to get them to make a deal," Trump said.
"I think, actually, Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky," he added...
It doesn't matter how much Putin wants a deal, because the US, who is the organizer, instigator, sponsor, and supplier of this proxy war, does not.

Europe's energy hypocrisy, Russian LNG profits and US dependence
For four years, Europe presented its energy break with Russia as a strategic and moral necessity, with Brussels expanding sanctions, promising to cut Moscow's revenues and preparing a complete ban on Russian liquefied natural gas. Yet European companies bought more LNG from Russia's Yamal project in the first nine months of 2026 than in the same period of 2025.
EU ports received a record 12.18 million tonnes of Yamal LNG between January and September 2026, an increase of 9.5% over the same period in 2025. The gas arrived in 167 cargoes, roughly one every 1.6 days. The EU received 85% of Yamal's recorded deliveries by volume even as the project's worldwide shipments fell by 1.3%...
